house Bill H.R. 361

Should the U.S. Apply Terrorism Sanctions Against Iranian-Backed Groups in Iraq?

Argument in favor

Iranian support for As-Saib Ahl Al-Haq (AAH) and Harakat Hizballah Al-Nujaba (HHN) is a major contributor to Iraq’s destabilization. Sanctioning these groups and their agents is an important step towards combating their influence and the violence they spread in the Middle East.

Yes that’s a very important thing to do the Republicans made an absolutely mess in Iraq But what’s even more frightening as we now have a republican president that’s a lying Idiot moron. He doesn’t have the fundamental knowledge needed to grasp the simplest aspects of the problems in Iraq. It’s a foreign policy matter I think Congress has been given dominion over foreign policy So they should leave the massive moron Trump out of it before he makes the problem worse. It’s a total shame that we have a man in the White House that has the IQ of a 12-year-old and the moral compass of an eight-year-old. A tragedy for this country.

We must stop and attack terrorism wherever we find it, use all means at our disposal to destroy them whether it’s financial, sanctions or military action. We owe this to those who died on 9-11 and fighting terrorist since that day of infamy. I don’t know why it took this long to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, it should have been done decades ago. #MAGA

Go, Anna! Countable let this one of yours through to me! Hooray! Right on Dave! Good one, John! Burrkitty, thank you for pointing out that the Saudis we’re responsible for 9/11. I believe most Ignorants do not know or have forgotten this! Our focus should be on our “domestic” terrorists first! The White Supremacists, KKK, neo-Nazis, and any of their ilk. Are you People aware that the Pig has, mostly, instructed law enforcement NOT to worry about “domestic” terrorists? Hey, we can’t arrest any of his buddies, can we? The Pig should be in prison for inciting people to violence. How one can argue otherwise is unscrupulous! If I even suggested what I’d like to see done to him, I’d be in jail in minutes. Yet he can be hateful and vindictive against me and you, every day. Where is the justice in that? Dems, quit letting them stonewall you. Grab a set of balls and impeach the bastard for all the treasonable things he’s ALREADY DONE! Thank you!

Argument opposed

Whether Hizballah is a terrorist organization is open to interpretation. Some believe it’s a legitimate political group — as evidenced by its victory in 2018 elections in Lebanon. If Hizballah isn’t really a terrorist group, it and its agents shouldn’t be sanctioned as such.

Let’s enforce sanctions on Russia, our most powerful and important foreign enemy, first and foremost. Iran will be less of a problem if Russia is de-fanged.

How about we deal with our domestic terrorists and the laws addressing that issue? The synagogue shootings, the neo-Nazis, the KKK... People are dying almost every damn day from our home grown terrorists. Besides, I have a hard time buying off on actions on foreign terrorists in Iran when the last deadly action by foreign agents on US soil was primarily composed of SAUDI ARABIANS. With no repercussions. Not to mention that poor journalist killed by SAUDI ARABIA. With no repercussions. So since we aren’t doing anything about SAUDI ARABIA, we clearly don’t actually care. So let’s deal with our home grown domestic terrorists. At least we know who the right target are here at home.

There's too much opinion here and not wnough FACT. The bill is very misleading and presents very little evidence other than just saying "terrorist". I would be for it if there were more presented to support the reasons. Right now its all the interpretation of the reader.

Think before you leap! The knee jerk response would be to vote “Yes”, BUT, we need to consider the secondary and tertiary effects of this proposal. We need to play a game of chess, not checkers. First, more sanctions on Iranian activity trickles down to the Iranian people, which will suffer shortages imposed by these sanctions. Thus, this assumes that sanctions will force Iranian government to consider the hardships and will then comply. Not likely. Where there is a vacuum, Russia will gladly step in and provide, this they become the saviors and win the hearts and minds.

Boom Boom Bolton is on the war path to invade Iran. How about developing a foreign policy that is based on diplomacy rather than on war-mongering. Rather than imposing sanctions on Iran a better approach would be to get back into the agreement with our allies to keep Iran from developing nukes. I can’t believe how much Trump and this administration have set back our foreign policy in just two years. What happened to sanctions on Russia, Saudi Arabia and North Korea? Trump doesn’t know right from wrong, friend from foe. Get him out of our White House.

Stay the hell away from Iran. We don’t need Iran/Iraq war part 2. You want to sanction a country doing harm to us then I suggest Saudi Arabia who was responsible for 911 and the killing of one of our journalists, Syria and so many other malicious acts, or Russia who is actively seeking to control the US and every other country on earth. You’ve already got China covered although that’s working against us, and your interference in Central and South America will simply lead to more trouble. Stay out of the Middle East.

The United States needs to stop getting involved in the internal affairs of Middle East countries. We only make the situation worse when we do. Also, the biggest sponsor of terrorism in this region is Saudi Arabia which exports their extremist ideology all across the world and threatening our national security, but our corrupt Washington politicians don’t focus on them because they love the oil that we get from them.

I fear the Trump administration is looking for a reason to go to war with Iran. Saudi’s Arabia and Israel are no doubt pushing fir it, too. And, I understand from a March 2017 article in the New Yorker that Trump was personally involved with the guard in building a hotel in Iran.

I personally think it is time to withdraw from the Far East. We have spent to many years, money and most importantly way to many lives in this feuding. Yes there is already legislation on the books for these policies. Sanctions don’t work, China and Russia along with other countries will support what we don’t. If Iran can do a better job allow them. We have wasted more time and money in useless government policies. We screwed up when we support the Shah in Iran. We screwed up the Iranian Democracy back in the 60’s. The only reason for this Bill is to line someone’s pockets, nothing else.

We are from the other side of the planet and have forced there, why single out Iran. We killed hundreds of thousands in a pointless war, who are we to judge and control their lands. Iraq should manage it’s own affairs.
