Giving Persecuted Religious Minorities From Iraq and Syria Priority Admission as Refugees

Argument in favor

Religious minorities are facing unimaginable persecution in Iraq and Syria at the hands of ISIS and other groups. If the U.S. is going to accept refugees, they’re the most vulnerable and should receive priority in the process.

Since the US is largely responsible for destabilizing the Middle East, we should take in these people! Most have skills we can use & are middle class, educated folks which we can't say for huge portions of the American population: because we have poured our $$$ into the military & war and don't spend $$$ on our own citizens. Clean up this mess! Spend the necessary $$ to make this country a place we do not have to be ashamed of!

Argument opposed

The U.S. shouldn’t be in the business of discriminating against certain types of refugees in order to move other refugees to the front of the line. Screen them all, and treat them equally.

We need to take care of our own people before brining in people from other countries. Especially from these two countries where there is a greater chance of ISIS joining in with the refugees.

It would be unamerican to claim certain people have priority when applying for citizenship based on their religion/culture or any type of discriminatory category. Everybody coming to America chooses to come for different reasons, and everybody should go through the legal process and wait their turn for their green cards. If we prioritize the admission of certain immigrants over others, that's very hypocritical of the American principle of equality.

The belief in a Deity doesn't make one life any more valuable or important than another. If we're going to bring in refugees, which I really think we ought to do, we need to bring them in regardless of religion. The belief you were born with should not keep you from safety.

We should give preference to PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS! The wealthy Muslim nations should take care of the Muslim "refugees"! I am ADAMANTLY OPPOSED to the further Islamization of America! The people from the Middle East are, in general, lovely, hospitable people. Nevertheless, Islam is a clear and present danger to freedom here in America, and indeed to our national security! Shariah Law is NOT compatible with the Judeo-Christian values that helped make America that "shining light upon a hill"! It is a religion that allows polygamy, child brides, cruel and unusual punishments, slavery, lying, and other human rights violations. Moreover, Muslims are using the "bleeding heart liberals" to further the Islamic goal of mass migration to colonize and conquer those nations foolish enough to allow it. The present "humanitarian crisis" has been instigated with just that in mind. And the Islamic extremists are intent on wiping away all traces of Christianity. They're destroying Christian landmarks and artifacts throughout the Middle East, and they are already attempting this on a smaller scale here in America. #StopIslamizationofAmerica #StealthJihad #CultureWars Kansas: Muslims take over chapel at Wichita State Univ, replace all Christian symbols The chapel before it was turned into a ‘faith neutral’ praying area replete with Muslim prayer mats. (Courtesy: Wichita State University) All the Christian symbols have been removed at the order of school officials, bowing to Muslims and the #sharia. This is not an isolated incident. It’s happening across the United States, at the Univ. of Chicago, at a Colorado university, at the Denver airport and a Syracuse church to cite a few examples. https://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2013/06/12/univ-of-chicago-removes-pews-from-chapel-to-accommodate-islamic-prayers/ https://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2013/04/23/colorado-saudi-muslims-got-university-prayer-room-now-want-kuffars-out/ https://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2012/09/05/muslim-prayer-room-at-denver-airport-separate-from-christians-and-jews/ https://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2015/08/17/syracuse-muslims-cut-down-paint-over-10000-crosses-to-convert-church-to-mosque/ via Heartland fury as university renovates chapel to accommodate Muslims http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2015/10/08/heartland-fury-as-university-renovates-chapel-to-accommodate-muslims.html A decision to make a university’s chapel “faith neutral” to accommodate Muslim students has created great angst in the nation’s Heartland after critics were accused of being Islamophobic. Last May, Wichita State University ordered workers to remove all the pews and an altar inside the Harvey D. Grace Memorial Chapel. The pews were ripped from the floor and replaced with portable chairs to make room for Muslim prayer rugs. “Under the terms of Mrs. Harvey D. Grace’s gift to the university in her will, ‘This chapel will be open to all creeds and to all races of people,’” WSU President John Bardo said in a statement. “Our goal should be exactly what Mrs. Grace set out to do in her gift, to have an all faiths chapel that is welcoming to all religious groups on campus.” But what happened at Wichita State wasn’t so much a renovation as it was a Christian cleansing. Anything remotely related to the décor of a Christian church was given the heave-ho. The chapel’s stained glass windows are still intact – for now. But I would not be terribly surprised if they’re boarded up – for the sake of inclusivity. “That space was always viewed as an interfaith for lots of folks,” WSU administrator Eric Sexton told me. “In the spirit of today – there was belief at the time this was discussed that the space was not as flexible for all to feel welcome and included.” Nevertheless, the removal of the pews and altar was a step too far for alumni and donors. “Why did they have to take out all the pews,” alum Jean Ann Cusick wrote on Facebook. Student body president Joseph Shepard told the Wichita Eagle that the outrage over the renovation is “Islamophobia.” “It’s coming from off-campus, not from the students here,” he told the newspaper. “They say we’ve taken a place of Christian worship and turned it into what they call a mosque.” The original renovation request came from a resolution presented to the student government association earlier this year. The campus newspaper reported that the school’s roughly 1,000 Muslim students needed a space on campus to pray and the idea was to renovate the chapel “into a flexible, faith neutral space where the spiritual needs of all students, faculty and staff can be accommodated.” About 15,000 students attend WSU. The proposal went on to describe the chapel as a “predominantly Judeo-Christian environment” — hence the need for a faith neutral makeover. There was so much outrage President Bardo has ordered a committee to be formed to study possible changes. “I don’t think that change was undertaken with enough consideration of the feelings of all elements of the campus and broader community,” he said. Meanwhile, Muslims students have presented a petition calling for the university to install Islamic-friendly plumbing. They want handheld bidets installed in restrooms around campus. This is what the Islamic transformation of a nation founded on Judeo-Christian values looks like, folks. The Christian faith is marginalized while the Islamic faith is given accommodation. I still can’t help but wonder whatever became of the altar and the pews. A university spokesman tells me they were more than likely hauled away by the facilities department. But, he said, no one knows for sure. More via Minority Muslim students take over Christian chapel in Kansas university Right in the American Heartland, in the state of Kansas, a minority group of Muslim students have succeeded in taking over what used to be the Christian chapel of their university to the dismay of the school’s majority Christian population. Ironically, the Muslims gained control of the Christian prayer area with the help of the administrators of Wichita State University (WSU) who, last May, decided to make the university’s chapel “faith neutral” to accommodate Muslim students, according to a Fox News report. University officials ordered workers to remove all the pews and the altar inside theHarvey D. Grace Memorial Chapel. Muslim prayer rugs and some portable chairs were then brought inside. But the Muslims now in control of the facility are dismissing the Christian outrage, calling it “Islamophobia,” or prejudice against Muslims. The Muslim students have also apparently taken over the university’s student body and publication, the Wichita Eagle. Student body president Joseph Shepard told the Wichita Eagle that the Christian outrage is “coming from off-campus, not from the students here.” Of the university’s 15,000 predominantly Christian students, only about 1,000 are Muslims. Meanwhile, the Muslims students are also making their move to assert their control of the facility. They recently presented a petition calling for the university to install Islamic-friendly plumbing—specifically, handheld bidets in restrooms around the campus. If you read Creeping Sharia regularly then you know that Muslims are building an Islamic enclave in Wichita. Religious minorities have a higher risk of being murdered under ISIS. It's important that they are given priority. Having said that, my definition of minority includes Christians, Yazidis, Shia Muslims, the LGBT community, ethnic minorities, etc, and there are different risk levels for each group. Although I think they should be given higher priority, Sunni Arabs should still be allowed to come as refugees.

No specific group of refugees should be given special treatment. Just because issues in Honduras or Afghanistan (as an example) are not politically salient in the United States does not mean they are any less important. Moreover, Iraqi and Syrian refugees are coming from ISIS controlled regions that are vehemently anti-West; ISIS wishes to kill as many Americans as possible. Muslims coming from these regions are far more likely to pose a terrorist threat, regardless of whether it's politically correct to admit so.

We can't know who follow what religion they all look the same and if a terrorist goes into one of these camps he's not going to say he's Muslim. Anyone fleeing should be in these camps and instead of fleeing camps we should have military training camps so we turn these wimps into rebels and we can have more people fighting at our side.

I believe they would be better served by being in a middle eastern they holds their belief and cultures are similar.I believe the usa is full of people they come for all the wrong reasons. No one should come to this country unless they intend to embrace american culture and wave our flag and follow our rules and not try to live the way they did in their country.

This war is targeting all people in the region, regardless of race, religion, or nationality. The United States should not be in the business of discriminating people fleeing a war zone because of their religion. Religious and ethnic majorities are just as impacted by these conflicts and steps must be taken to help whoever we can.

Why are we taking in refugees when we have plenty of hungry, homeless, poor, and suffering U.S. citizens to help? However sad it is that refugees exist, we cannot afford to take in everybody. Consider, too, that there is no way to determine which of these refugees are anti-U.S. terrorists. How many Japanese citizens were brought from their war-torn country to the U.S. during WWII to protect them? Ditto German citizens from Germany? USE WHAT FEW FUNCTIONING brain cells you have. Your FIRST DUTY is to keep U.S. citizens safe!
