Should Human Cloning be Banned?

Argument in favor

The U.S. should join several of its European peers in banning human cloning for reproductive or therapeutic purposes. Cloning humans raises too many ethical questions for it to be allowed.

Cloning of replacement parts only! Just because science can clone a human doesn't mean one should. I'm a strong believer in creating humans babies the old fashion way as God intended.

Full humans? No thanks! Organs yes, but I see so many problems with this..I'm sure the FBI and others would love having unaccounted for human beings at their disposal

My worry is that we will use clones as a means of organ donors. Not only will we be possibly asking whether these clones have legal rights we could be asking do they qualify as entities will full autonomy.

Argument opposed

Fears about cloning humans and the societal turmoil it could cause are overblown. Morality shouldn't be allowed to stand in the way of potentially life and world altering scientific advancements.

Science , experimentation and progress are not moral debates. Anything that can progress humanity should be pursued.

The government shouldn't regulate what we can and can't do if it doesn't harm others.

I'm not a fan of cloning yet. But if we make it illegal outright, there's no turning back. I believe it mocks a sacred and intimate act between two people. But the possibilities for those who are unable to have children are endless, as well as better understanding of genetics and the "Nature vs Nurture" argument. As long as it is under intense scrutiny in every aspect, I will support it.

It is unethical to create a separate class of citizens for the sake of harvesting their body parts. It's a despicable process for any purpose. Shame on us for even entertaining such a quandary. If other countries want to pursue this aberration of science let them do so at the peril of their own social degradation. America should be a light on the hill.

Human Cloning will provide us with massive strides in scientific advancement and health care, improving the lives of millions, and making many life threatening diseases that require things such as transplants finally easily solvable. It may seem unethical to have Human Cloning be legal, but it will be unethical to make it illegal and have people die from diseases that have could be preventable through human Cloning.

We shouldn't prematurely ban this without it ever being tried or explored. There are serious moral issues raised but we shouldn't reject science because we fear humanity's lack of morality

The cloning of human beings perpetrates the sanctity of human life, in that it leads to the destruction of uniqueness of individuals that is imbedded into the culture of our society and world.

A blanket ban on human cloning would prevent research that could help save lives by developing new techniques or drugs. With the proper regulation we can still use cloning as a tool for the benefit of humans.

Having such a sweeping law against cloning severely prohibits scientific research in this field. Besides, it is not up to elected officials, and worse - unelected officials, to decide the morality of the society it governs. It is up to the people to push the story of its morality onto the government that it owns. Let people question a push their own morality and mortality, the government has no place butting in to these issues.

Human cloning is ethically sticky. I'm not against the idea of cloning organs or animals, but until we are sure exactly what we're doing (scientifically, ethically, morally), we need to wait.
