house Bill H.R. 3434

Eliminating Temporary Assistance for Families That Can't Get Their Kids to School

Argument in favor

Helps children by making more parents more accountable. Would also aid the economy in the long-term by lowering the number of dropouts--a demographic that places an enormous burden on an economy.

Argument opposed

In at least as many cases as not, withholding benefits from a family living below the poverty line is not going to get a kid who was not going to school suddenly go to school.

So you take the money that pays the rent away and the family becomes homeless, exactly how does that get the child to school? Hurts children in the short-run and the long-run.
