house Bill H.R. 3228

Should the White House Have to Hold At Least Two Recorded Press Briefings Each Week?

Argument in favor

The White House has a duty to keep the press informed of what’s going on in the government, and mandating two weekly briefings that are video recorded would ensure that happens.

The people should have a right to hear what's going on in the White House. This is depressing that this bill has to be passed.

I think the issue is really that we shouldn't need to have to legislate this issue at all. At a time when YouTube, Facebook Live, and countless other live steaming services are rampant, why are there any closed press briefings? Why would they not want to be on camera? This comes across as fear tactics to keep the media and the public at arms length. But why? I'd rather the congress spend less time in legislating this and more time actually calling the White House out on this. But yes, please legislate this if that is the only way in which we the people can demand transparency.

Argument opposed

Press briefings are good for the media, the public, and in some cases the White House — but that doesn’t mean Congress should require there be two every week.

What a joke!! The mainstream media don't qualify as "Free Press!" Maybe if they quit using their reporters (and I use the term loosely) and publications as purveyors of DemoCommie and Islamic propaganda, the White House might be more accommodating. The MSM seem to eschew facts; rather they seem to prefer to spread gossip, lies, innuendos, slander, and/or seditious articles --- anything to denigrate President Trump, the GOP (especially the Constitutional conservatives), Christians, and anything that smacks of patriotism, justice, or common sense. IOW, the MSM make a mockery of free speech and freedom of the press!

Our democracy is under attack. Disenfranchising the constituents is just another breaking point. We should be able to hear the information about our country from the highest levels of office. step up as representatives and do the right thing for our country. represent our interests and get this destructive man out of the role of president

Great leadership, no matter in what area, displays accountability and transparency. The highest position of our country fails to do this in several aspects. Bringing back on camera press conferences implies you have nothing to hide and that trust in the media is attempted (even if the administration feels that they share opposing views).

Almost laughable. We have a proposal from Democrat Himes (CT) wanting our #POTUS to hold a video press conference twice a week. Where was this proposal when Obama held the post? Typical TWO FACED Democrat.
