You want our bases to be safer. Then we need to allow our trained law enforcement officers to carry our personal pistol concealed while off duty on the installation. This will not only allow for a greater defense of the base but it will also allow the already low manned police shifts a greater back up force. I also believe that while state side or at a CONUS base we should be allowed to carry what ever pistol we choose to carry as long as it meets the same caliber requirement as the standard duty pistol. Myself as a weapons instructor for the military have seen someone come through for a class on the beretta m9 pistol and struggle but later bring out a weapon that they are comfortable or with and shoot very well. This will not only bring the law enforcement personnel more confidence while performing their duty but also reduce collateral damage or collateral casualties because of lack of confidence in the use of deadly force while on duty. But this will also strengthen our base security, especially on smaller installation like three one I am currently stationed at. Greater numbers will equal greater safety at outdoor events and for the base as a whole.
