house Bill H.R. 3055

Funding the Federal Gov’t Thru December 20th to Avoid a Shutdown

Argument in favor

There isn’t enough time for the Democratic House and Republican Senate to reach bipartisan consensus on spending with the White House. It’s not ideal, but this bill would prevent a partial government shutdown on November 21st and give Congress until December 20th to cut a deal.

Pass the bill but, make sure you are not screwing around with the Census. Make sure you Properly fund the VA & NASA.

What’s wrong with this bill, Col. Cook? Not enough money for the wall? Trump could always negotiate with Mexico as promised....

Argument opposed

Rather than procrastinating by extending government funding for a month, Congress should focus on reaching a bipartisan spending agreement before November 21st so that a stop-gap funding bill like this isn’t needed.

Too many issues in one minibus bill. Lots of it good but...Too much military spending. No money for a physical wall. I won’t support Census spending with a citizenship question or pass it and I won’t answer the census. Your choice. All humanitarian aid must be spent on the asylum seekers path to citizenship and working, not detention and deportation. No more money for private prisons and nothing for DOJ til Barr is gone.

You cannot put five different departments into one funding bill, regardless of the breakdown. This is where the United States gets into trouble financially. We must be able to accurately debate each department with its own funding bill, but not take too long to deliberately derail funding for the year. So no, stop putting so many departments and agencies into one spending bill.

I want to see how each is funded . Too many very important agencies may not get the funding actually needed at the end of the day.

Never have I liked so many YEA’s and so many NAY’s on the same question. I don’t want to see a shutdown any more than you, but I’m fed up with never ending continuing resolutions. How many times can you push CR’s on just to avoid actually compromising on some things and taking tough votes? If you’re not up to doing your f@&)%#g jobs, go home and don’t come back. You’re not pulling the wool over anyone’s eyes. WE NEED A GOVERNMENT THAT IS FUNCTIONAL.

Way too much fat in this “minibus” bill. It also restricts census questions! Vote no on this democrat pork and propaganda bill.

This needs to be separated into each option. No money to change the census. No citizen question.

This isn't perfect, but overall I think it should pass as long as Congress continues its oversight that these funds are spent as allocated and not re-appropriated for other priorities. Let's keep the government open and funded.

Again too many stipulations attached to this bill. Democrats fail again to perform their job for all American citizens.

Why is the citizenship question such a bad one? Why can't we ask if a person is a citizen or not? Are you Dems worried that a major portion of your votes will be seen as illegal, finally.

The Citizenship question is an important consideration particularly at this time when our southern border is being overrun with non-citizens entering the country. It is foolish to NOT include the Citizenship question on the census!

I don't support DOJ or Census funding until the House is allowed to do its oversight in to these particular bureaucracies. It's rich to ask for funding from a Bipartisan perspective when you control the Senate and block anything brought by the House. Do you jobs. Compromise or reap what you sow.

This BILL has the chance of a snowball in hell of being passed and signed. It is full of pork and poison pills! WHAT JERKS YOU CONGRESSMEN ARE! YOU SHOULD NOT DRAW ONE DIME OF PAY TILL YOU PASS THE FULL BUDGET, PASS A WORKING IMMIGRATION LAW, AND FIX THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. UNTIL THEN, YOU SHOULD NOT GET ONE DIME OF TAXPAYER MONEY FOR ANYTHING. NOT FOR TRAVEL, LODGING, OR FOOD! OF COURSE, MOST OF YOU ARE TAKING MILLIONS FROM THE LOBBYISTS, SO YOU REALLY DON'T NEED OR DESERVE TO BE PAID BY THE TAXPAYERS! EITHER WORK IT ALL OUT, AND SOON, OR GO HOME AND STAY THERE FOREVER!!!!!

Nancy Pelosi included reauthorizationnof the Patriot Act in the obviously needed continuation of government work. The Patriot Act essentially allows broad spying on us all. To love this country is not to throw away civil rights, especially as the wealthy few, corporations, and right wing extremist groups including #45 work to further control is.
