Should the U.S. Extend its Defense Partnership With Jordan?

Argument in favor

Jordan is one of the new nations in the Middle East that the U.S. can rely on, and it shares a strategic interest in defeating ISIS. This partnership is necessary to bolster Jordan’s military.

Jordan is one of our best, if not the best, middle eastern ally that we have. Their government is outstanding. They have potential problem countries on their borders. It is good for the US as well as Jordan to make sure they stay safe. Let’s do what we can do to make our partnership easier with this country.

Yes, we should extend our cooperation with Jordan. If we are to defeat terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda and Hezbollah, we need allies in the Near East. Since Jordan is a place where Hezbollah hangs out and runs a portion of the country, the United States should help the country free itself from extremists of Islamic Jehad groups. Not only a military partnership, but the sale of our military equipment is a big helper to encourage economic growth at home. Jordan has been a great ally before, we should not leave them.

Yes. We need all the allies we can get at this time. America is loosing credibility and status and having any friends will help from a regional perspective.

Argument opposed

While defeating ISIS is important, the U.S. doesn’t need more expedited defense sales to Jordan. Those transactions should go through a more deliberative process.

Not unless Israel agrees. The reason being that Israel is the only true allies that the United States has in that part of the world.

Withdraw. Come home. Defend the US. Our borders are way over here. What're you doing all the way over there?

You seriously want to meddle even more and pour more arms into the Middle East a highly unstable region. Why not turn your swords into plough shears and start providing money to as you say shore up Jordan’s economy rather than provide either the king or some generals with more tools. There are many ways to provide aid that would be more effective than what you really want to do which is to support our military industrial complex.

Jordan is a close ally to the United States and has been one of very few Mideast States that has been consistent since the end of the Israel-Arab Wars. This bill costs very little and would continue to strengthen our alliance with the Jordanians.

More entanglements for military and budget issues. Who am I kidding, our Government never had a budget problem?

Yes but only if the King of Jordan requests our help. Otherwise allow Jordan to work out there own issues. We give them plenty of money and that should be enough until they need more support.

Definitely!! Abdullah II, The King of Jordan, is one of the very few friends we have in that area and our continued support of him, and his efforts on our behalf, are vitally important to us.

Jordan is a voice of sanity in the Middle East -- they've been a force for good, stepping up to the plate when other nations have burried their heads in the sand. We should absolutely help them.

I read someone said only if Israel is ok with it ? We are the United States of America ! We don’t take orders from Israel or Russia at least not yet ! Israel and Russia do have one thing in common they both take land that does not belong to them ! I do not support a country that will only allow people of a certain religion to have a voice in government !

There needs to be a more deliberative, international, e.g. UN, process, rather than an obvious bonus to US arms makers.

Jordan is one of the few friends we have since Trump took over. We need to aid them as much as possible in the fight to rid the world of Isis.

Stop intruding on other nations and getting in there affairs. Friendship with all nations that welcome it but no entangling alliances.
