Committee on Foreign AffairsCommittee on the JudiciaryImmigration and CitizenshipIntroducedJanuary 4th, 2017
Let's get some of these countries to step up. Cut all funding to these countries. We should not be funding any other country but the USA. Do it.
Our immigration program has already been destroyed. May we be saved from the Republicans who have never seen a non-problem for which they didn't want to punish immigrants and people of color. When it comes to carrot or stick, human beings ( and for that matter, animals) have been shown to respond better to the carrot. To mangle some metaphors more, let's stop beating a dead horse and expecting it to respond positively to our assault. News flash: we are one country among many--not rulers of the world. Manifest destiny works about as well as trickle down economics. No way, never, not at all. With apologies to thoughtful moral conservatives who are true conservative Republicans and not people acting out hatred of immigrants and people of color.
Oh, the tangled web we weave when we practice mass deportation of people who are doing just fine here and contributing to our society and who may have no real ties in their country of national origin! We are the assholes now.
This will change nothing in the behavior of the other countries involved. They may believe the deportee has done nothing wrong and that the leader of this country is breaking promises like DACA or unfairly breaking up families. Their desire to help us with extradition issues or similar situations would just go way down the tubes. This is where having a bit of diplomacy and a long term plan might come in handy instead of telling everyone what they are going to do for us.
Just another bully tactic. We don't need to govern the world!!! Don't we have enough issues here to worry about???
I like the provisions of this bill, but it doesn't go far enough! A better bill is Rep. Brian Babin's H.R. 82 (Official Title:
To withhold Federal financial assistance from each country that denies or unreasonably delays the acceptance of nationals of such country who have been ordered removed from the United States and to prohibit the issuance of visas to nationals of such country).
The administrative behavior of other countries shouldn't result in punishment for people who are trying to come to the U.S., who don't control that behavior. That is unfair.
When I ask my grandson if he wants French fries, he would say "Sure, why not." Same feelings I feel concerning the issue. Stop all Visas until "refusing" country complies with request and also withhold all foreign aid.
No, those counties have their own priorities and may be glad to get rid of these people. Plus it's a way to stick it to Trump and right now there probably not as many people wanting to come to the US as in previous years due to Trump's behavior. So not as many VISAs needed.
Kindergarten level diplomacy. Actions, like this one, hurt our national security.
Perfect. A lot of countries make money by their citizens sending money back to their home countries. This will put pressure on them to comply
The fact that they won't take their citizens back is the same philosophy that causes refugees to flee in the first place. These are human beings, not trade commodities. Show some soul.
To quote Mahatma Ghandi "An eye for an eye makes everyone blind". As a nation we are in severe danger of being isolated in an increasingly global world. History has many examples. We're all in this together folks. Wake up and smell the coffee!
We are a country of immigrants. We should be accepting them with open arms, not demonizing them.
A misguided approach to dealing with illegal immigration.
This is just getting out of hand. We need comprehensive immigration reform. Diversity makes us stronger.
