Congress’s oversight duties demand that the Congressional intelligence committees remain informed about the FBI’s election-related counterintelligence activities is doing. As the 2016 election demonstrates, keeping Congress out of the loop in regards to FBI investigations can have significant consequences.
This bill could have unintended consequences, like requiring the FBI Director to disclose election-altering information too close to election dates in a manner that affects public opinion. This would violate the Hatch Act and call the affected election’s results into question.
