Should the U.S. Limit Imports of Sport-Hunting Trophies From African Lions & Other Potentially Endangered Species?

Argument in favor

The importation of trophies from big game hunting in foreign countries is controversial and should be limited. Ensuring that trophies from African lions and at-risk species proposed for Endangered Species Act (ESA) listing can’t be brought into the U.S. will help protect endangered animals and help contain public outrage about Americans hunting for sport abroad.

Yes.. Do everything possible to prevent the extinction of any endangered species for sport or sporting trophies. Mankind has a terrible track record in screwing up biodiversity and ecosystems- with often terrible consequences - just for the ‘fun’ of it or for convenience, without considering long term ramifications.

All “sport hunting” should be banned. Why is killing an animal for sport acceptable?

Argument opposed

By limiting the importation of trophies from species proposed, but not placed, on the Endangered Species Act, this bill would severely restrict Americans’ ability to hunt for sport abroad and bring their trophies home. In doing this, this bill could potentially harm the conservation cause by reducing the Fish and Wildlife Services’ revenue from hunters, which helps fund conservation.

Most of the trophies are collected when hunters pay very large amounts of money to provide funds for animal conservation and preservation to call the herds.

The Americans big money is what keeps these conservatories open in these other countries. Without the American sportsmen traveling to these conservatories for big game hunting they will have to close down. If you want to see something change it would have to be at these conservatories that have the sportsmen as guests at these resorts. They take them out on the conservatory to hunt. This was they can protect way more then they kill. Just remember your limiting Americans freedoms even abroad. Thing about that for a minute... Also your wasting time & money in this while we have have illegals flooding our southern border. While socialists are trying to take over our government & tax is 75% then if we have a certain amount of money in the bank they’ll help themselves to another 10% so a total of 85%. Do you want the government taking your money & spending it for you? We have homeless people all over the country & instead of even giving them a place to live we’re setting up a nice place to live for illegals. How about we set up a place for our citizens to live?

This bill does not go far enough. Either we condone hunting for sport or not. Putting limits on imports does not correct this type of behavior. On the other hand, if we continue to allow hunting for sport, until a species has been declared endangered, they are at risk.

Trophy hunting is appalling. Stuffing the heads of these majestic creatures is just sick. Without predators our ecosystem collapses, our earth stops supporting life.

I would prefer a ban of trophy hunting imports, but we can start with a limit.

We don’t need less protections for animals and the environment, we need more. This administration does not seem to value non-human life any more than it can turn a profit.

This horrific “sport” should not just be limited, it should be stopped! There is no such thing as sport hunting. Sport is when there are two equal opponents competing against each other. This so called “sport” is the same as putting a tank into a boxing ring. Haven’t we lost enough species? Our obligation should be to care for and protect living beings don’t have a voice for themselves.

Currently over 1 million animals have been pushed into the designated extinction level. And just today, the administration has stated a change in the way the Endangered Species Act is applied, inevitably weaken this important piece of legislation. We must continue to lead the world in preserving and protecting our planet.

Killing any living creature “for sport” should offend all, thinking, twenty-first century human beings. While remaining sensitive to the sanctity of all life, humans can justify killing for food. Killing for sport should nauseate any rational human being. By all means, ban the importation of trophy kills.

There is no justification for trophy hunting. Yes not only limit-but tax it so high it will be a deterrent. Animals need our protection. I hope to see trophy “hunting“ outlawed in my lifetime. This Is Not a sport.

I dont know how much more I can take from this corrupt administration's killing everything that lives, wildlife or human including children. The rollback of protections not only affects humans but animals as well. Now I hear it will allow drilling in Alaska which will affect pristine water in Bristol bay. When will this lunacy stop? There will be dancing in the streets when we vote these bastards out!
