house Bill H.R. 2146

Should Congress Approve the 'Fast-Track' for Free Trade Agreements (Like TPP)?

Argument in favor

There is bipartisan agreement that this bill will open markets for U.S. exports, give the U.S. more access to imports, and save average consumers money. Congress would still have a chance to weigh in, and ultimately approve or deny any trade agreements.

As long as the bill is not private and it is a move towards free trade, we should support it. However, if a bill is kept in secret and imposes tariffs or confers privileges to certain industries, it must be opposed.

We live in a global economy. It's very likely without this you will have the U.S. Limited in its ability to engage in the already global and changing economy and the implications for our global trading partners could be disastrous

These careers are more demanding than most and often times they are no longer physically able to continue work. I would much rather see an early retirement than a disability claim. This option should be available for all careers that are age selective in the ability to do the work.

Argument opposed

This bill doesn't protect American workers who could lose their jobs because of the increased competition from "fast-tracked" trade agreements. It also gives too much negotiating power to the President and corporations — not the American people.

So we can bail them out when they're broke in retirement? I don't think so. These folks have inherently dangerous jobs and could be permanently disabled at anytime. They may need the money in their retirement savings, and this bill would allow them to run that down

Too secret, a power grab , a typical example of how the population gets manipulated into ignorance and complacency. A giveaway to China and other Asian nations and and basically a contract to further diminish control on big corporat players.

This is a blatant attempt at even more corporate takeover of our government. This bill does not benefit Americans, only corporations.

Calling the TPP a 'trade agreement' is incredibly generous. The bill would be more accurately labeled a 'corporate rights' bill or a bill providing corporate benefits. The bill encourages an international race to the bottom wage wise, forcing U.S. workers to compete with countries where the minimum wage is lower than a dollar an hour. This either encourages American corporations to continue to suppress wages domestically or to continue to export labor abroad. The bill also allows for labor laws and environmental regulations, notably, to be brought to an international corporate tribunal and overturned. This is bad for the working people of the world. It provides little to no environmental protection and also does not enforce strict regulations for imports and exports, raising a lot of health concerns about the quality of food that could then be exported from the U.S. that doesn't meet the regulations of other countries and vice versa. The TPP does more harm than good and is nothing more than a power grab from multi-national corporations disguised as a trade agreement.

If this is already enacted at the state level, why should federal law enforcement agents not have the same option?

If they can already retire early then there's no reason they shouldn't be able to withdraw money they've invested for that same purpose.

They should not be treated any differently than any citizen. If we cannot pull from our 401K early without penalty, neither should they.

The bill itself might not grant direct approval of a trade agreement, which is good, but it sounds like this is a Frankenstein bill that originally started as something completely different. In the spirit of "one subject at a time" I have to then oppose it.

Do you want the end of America? Because Fast track is how you get the end of America. All treaties have to be ratified by the congress. It is not the presidents job to ratify treaties. Only in dictatorial states with 1 person as the leader do you have this kind of behavior.

Bad for America and her citizens. Also, it gives the President way too much power. If the vote is Nay, Obama will override it. Congress can override the President's veto and I hope you will do so.

Dear House Leader Boehner, . . . Your YEA vote is a vote THAT FAVORS THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY and is against everything the GOP stands for! It is time for you to step down from your position of authority and let a conservative lead our party! Get out of the way with your progressive positions and make way for a strong constitutional Republican to right the wrongs that you and other Establishment Republicans have created due to POLITICAL BLINDNESS! - Robert Lee Ball - Dallas, TX

Nobody who works full time should live in poverty. Every worker is valuable. I have a huge issue when caregiver's are paid much less than Nurses when they spend more actual time with patients & not doing paperwork. We need to place more value on our elderly. They are wise & they have earned our respect.

I'm so down. More trade deals! More power will need to be designated to international regulatory agencies afterwards, making this world a little easier to understand. Global governance dreamers should love this
