Should the Feds Give States Grant Money to Create Anonymous School Threat Reporting Systems?

Argument in favor

Ahead of school shootings, there are sometimes warning signs that go unreported. Creating anonymous tip lines for people to report potential red flags will help keep schools and students safe.

Rick Scott, Marco Rubio, Bill Posey OLC policy: The indictment or criminal prosecution of a sitting President would unconstitutionally undermine the capacity of the executive branch to perform its constitutionally assigned functions. It’s time to do your job. You swore an oath to this country, it’s people and me to uphold the constitution. The president has never upheld that oath. How do you want to be remembered? Obstruction of Justice. Profiting from the Presidency. Collusion - They had a meeting & lied about it. Advocating political & police violence. Abuse of power. Engaging in reckless behavior. Persecuting political opponents. Attacking the free press. Violating immigrants Right to Due Process. Violating campaign finance laws. Accused by more than 20 women of molestation and rape. Bragged about said molestation. Racist, Speaks directly to and often tweeting straight from white supremacists. Literally has said in an interview he has Hitlers speeches, My New Order in his nightstand. Takes the side of dictators over America’s own security agencies on the national stage. Seeks to divide instead of bring together through language that instigates violence. Lacks the intelligence and facts needed to communicate on a global level much less national one. Lies when speaks. Russian mobster lived in trump tower. trump casino was flagged 106 times for lax money laundering standards and same Russian frequently stayed at trump casino. Has been selling real estate to Russians for years. It really is surprising how many connections to Russians this man has. Has never divested from companies and advertises and profits off the White House.

Or you know, gun safety laws. But since we can’t acknowledge the fact that more guns equal more gun deaths, let’s spend massive amounts of $$ whiffing around with other fluff to create the illusion of safety. Yeah, good plan. Please ignore the stomach cancer, doc, I just need a antacid. It’s fine. Really. 🙄

A warning system won't cure the sickness of America's unhealthy romance with guns, but I'm in favor of anything that could catch a disaster before it started.

Argument opposed

Safe2Tell’s anonymity can be abused by student pranksters or those seeking to cause disruption. Additionally, many states have already invested in these programs on their own so federal action may not be needed.

STOP spending money on everything BUT the OBVIOUS answer!! You can have as many active shooter videos, reporting systems and useless bandaids as you want. NONE of it matters until meaningful gun reform is passed. Only in America would u pay actors to act in a video about how to avoid getting shot instead of PREVENTING it!!!!!!!!!

Twenty five million is way too much money. All you have to do is call the local police department & request to be anonymous. This is a blatant waste of tax payer dollars. These monies could be used to curb an opioid crisis & dumping of chineese goods into our country. To keep manufacturers open in America instead of sending our jobs over seas!

Why deal with the symptoms instead of the core problem? This is a human heart issue which can only be fixed spiritually! Restore the fear of the Lord in the classroom. Repost the 10 Commandments and restore Bible study in the classroom. This is a Christian Nation and until hearts return to accepting Jesus as our Redeemer and Savior, the chaos will grow worse.

This should not require federal money.

Call 911. Simple, and it didn’t cost anything. Request to stay anonymous. Create penalties if anonymity is violated. Problem solved.

We already have a way to report it’s called the local police department

Why do states need more money to do what they should already be doing? Seems odd.

How about we get to the root of the problem, and do some common sense gun control. Background checks? Wait periods?

Again, a good idea substituted for a better one. We need better gun control and background checks, but we also need all states equally on board with several kinds of threat reporting.

There is no money Trump has given it to the rich and used it to play golf and vacation every weekend. The national debt is a disgrace. The Republican Party as we knew it is no more due to the cowards in the senate that don’t reign him in. We all listen to his lies and conspiracy theories and shake our heads, but our leaders have no balls and stay silent. Throw them all out!

No it’s a total waste of money the Florida parkland school was told about the kid months before he killed anyone and did nothing ..the little local police were told and the FBI nothing was done earlier just to contact the local Police

25 million for schools to set up a program....SERIOUSY....REALLY? Again, I'm going with WHO IS PAYING? School systems in states that should maybe take the authority and responsibility do what they're paid for. Make changes! Decide to actually make parents responsible for their kids! School administrators sit back, as weasels, instead of taking charge and doing what they should. You don't need government money to take responsibility.

The Federal government needs to get rid of the Department of Education ! This is a 10th Amendment issue and the power to do or not do something belongs to the state and local governments !

United States Government does not need to be in the school business. Read the United States Constitution and see what the USA Government is supposed to do. This is the duty for the State or County could be City.

The wretched, destructive, abusive, divisive, irresponsible & non-productive behavior of our non-popularly elected president and his Republican White House, Congressional & media enablers, & their failure to uphold the Constitution & protect OUR country (& lives!!) should not stand in the way of any effort by any government entity to enact thoughtful measures that will take a step towards saving even one life!! I know that’s a long sentence (!!), but we quibble over whether we should follow this path or that. There is NO single solution to such a complex issue - our children, spouses, parents, friends & neighbors and WE are being brutally killed. Whether by mass murderers with military-capacity weapons, or by individuals with handguns used to “settle” arguments (such as the one that killed my great grandson’s father) or enact revenge in the streets, or by those who would use cars or knives, our nation is imploding into its own storm of hatred unless we can take actions. Many actions - not just one. We must recognize, too, that this is and always has been a national problem, a threat that recognizes no state or community boundaries. it respects no political party. religion, age or race. Weapons that shot Presidents Lincoln, Garfield, Kennedy, & Reagan; guns that killed Martin Luther King, Robert F. Kennedy, 6 year old children in Connecticut & teenagers in Florida, worshippers in a Pittsburgh synagogue & a Charleston church; “WMDs” that massacred concert-goers in Las Vegas & nightclubbers in Orlando ... 460 dead and over 910 injured from1991 until today in 23 mass shootings. Since January 2010 alone, there have been at least 733 deaths & over 1155 injuries in shootings of

I support this legislation with checks and balances. We can’t continue to allow mass shootings but anonymous without checks won’t work either. We need to monitor the program.

Stop screwing around & create REAL GUN OWNER LEGISLATION. I NAY HAVE TO START AT THE SAKES IF THE GUNS - ie make gun sellers responsible if a gun they sell is involved in the killing of a human being.
