house Bill H.R. 21

The $271 Billion Bill to Reopen the Agencies Impacted by the Shutdown (Except Homeland Security) Thru September

Argument in favor

Congress has a constitutional responsibility to fund the government and this bill reflects the funding bills that passed the Senate with overwhelming support in the last Congress. Leaving Homeland Security out allows negotiations over border security funding to continue.

Pass these bills to open the government agencies that have nothing to do with a stupid wall. Why does Trump get his jollies by inflicting pain and suffering on innocent government workers. He disrespects generals , veterans, government workers and others without remorse. One almost gets the idea he might be sociopathic. Please open the doors to government and let the people in. Then open the doors of the White House and throw Trump out. Thank you.

Sorry, but government employees should not be held hostage by a novice president who only wants to score points with his illogical base. How many of you voting “no”’are actually affected by the shutdown? Most likely 0-1%.

Argument opposed

Congress shouldn’t be passing a massive $271 billion funding bill on its first day even if some of the agencies covered by it have been partially closed because of the shutdown. This bill won’t get signed unless it provides border security funding, so it’s a waste of time in its current form.

No border security then don’t pass any bills to fund the government. Keep it closed down! Our security should come as the first priority!

I get it was a promise to a few people in America but the majority, like the majority that did NOT vote for him are not interested - this is not Trumps or his followers America - it is the American people, ALL OF THEM, and majority says no wall - want to beef up some border security...no worries, put some money in there but should not make or break Trump signing off on bill to fund government - that is not what our forefathers wanted - one idiot to prevent what 100% of House and Congress voted on.

Good. First things first! Release these poor public service personnel in totally unrelated departments from this stupid shutdown situation. Get everything else up and running and THEN we can argue about DHS funding on its own merits. WITHOUT AMERICAN FAMILIES AS ECONOMIC HOSTAGES.

Some day, someone will decide to “pre-fund” various departments and groups, like the Park Service, for 2 years; then future funding with be year/month/term extensions to that 2-year funding. This will make the department immune to funding shutdowns, as their budget has already been funded this year, and new money goes into next year.
