house Bill H.R. 21

Should a Lame Duck President's Final Regulations be Blocked?

Argument in favor

An outgoing, lame duck president shouldn’t have the ability to use the regulatory process to circumvent the will of Congress. This bill prevents presidents from avoiding Congress to advance their own agenda in their final year in office.

All of you who voted NO, are missing the whole point of the question. Yes the President is a President for 4 years. But that is why here is a transition period. We vote and make our desires known. Then in the last 10 or so weeks, the current President can do whatever they like, as it is now, which can literally blow up the world by doing political things which do not serve the American people. This is a torturous issue!

President's who cram unpopular legislation through at the end of their term are subverting the will of the people. Democracies work when the people are convinced not co-opted. This

I love how Democrats are all for the constitution until it doesn't meet their needs then it's a 200 year old document written by racist white people.

Argument opposed

Presidents, even those in their final term, aren’t elected to three-year terms. They should have the ability to fully exercise the powers of the presidency throughout their full term in office, even in their last few months.

Presidents are elected for a full 4 year term not 3 1/2, not 3 3/4, but 4 years. This is nothing more than a political stunt made by over reaching Republicans that don't fully agree with what the President has the full right to do. Move on to more important issues.

As long as a president is still in office, he should be able to do his job. The next Supreme Court Justice should be President Obama's pick but he was stonewalled. No hearings were ever held. The Senate never did their job. This opening is over 6 months old... Unprecedented!

Why should the last year of the president's term be any different than the first three years? No it should not be limited.

There is exactly one president at a time no ifs, ands, or buts about it. If you don't agree with him fine, that is your right but you will respect him as the leader of our country and of the free world. President Obama was elected (again) for a full four year term which expires on January 20th, 2017 and not a day sooner.

When more than 3 million people voted against the president elect there is NO mandate no matter what Trump and his delusional minions claim. Obama has been an outstanding president and those seeking to reverse course do so at their own political peril.

I would question the Constitutionality of such a move. It appears to disrupt the balance of power between Congress and the Executive Branch. Congress is attempting to exercise power it does not properly possess.

Often the correct choice is unpopular and is only achievable as a lame duck.

Considering Obama has done everything in his power to make the Trump transition as bumpy as possible and I don't put it past any president, including Trump, to do this same thing and try to detail the 46th president's transition. We have to insure a smooth transition.

Blocking legislation is not in the best interest of the people. Legislators spent 8 years blocking everything Democrat resulting in nothing getting done and a country of angry people. Vote how the majority of the people want, not your special interest groups.

No lame duck. Obama is a sane, educated, ethical, President who takes decisions in the best interest of the people and country unlike the evil fool who takes over this month.
