Should the U.S. Leave the United Nations?

Argument in favor

The U.S. doesn’t get enough of a benefit from participating in the United Nations to justify government spending on it. America should leave the U.N. to focus on its own interests.

The United Nations is a failed attempt to become a one world government a waste of billions of dollars. These United States finances 22% of the cost by keeping it here in NY. TOTAL WASTE!!!

Remain allies. Remain at peace. Shun one-world governance. Governance should always be as local as possible, and the UN is as far from that as possible.

Why support an international body that is opposed to our beliefs? The majority of countries in the UN regularly vote against the United States policies. Most members only want us for our money to support them in their oppressive governmental regimes.

Argument opposed

The United Nations needs the U.S., the most powerful nation in the world, to stay in the international organization for credibility. America gains global influence by participating in the U.N.

If we leave, we will have no say in international affairs and we could be labeled a rogue nation. We could be shunned even further by our allies and refused assistance in the event of a foreign conflict. no, stay in the UN if for nothing else their support.

To withdraw from the UN would not only voluntarily give up powers that founding membership grants, but begins to walk the US down a road away from democracy, towards dictatorship.

If proposed bills like this don’t convince people that Republicans have stopped being a legitimate governing political party, I don’t know what will. The U.N. is literally where world diplomacy is happening. Maybe the GOP doesn’t understand this, but we share this world with other countries and therefore, we need to talk and negotiate with them and the U.N. is the place to help us do just that.

We all live on one planet. We should belong to organizations that permit almost all of the nation’s on that planet to interact with each other. “Local” problems rapidly develop international consequences in our modern era. The United Nations offers a means, admittedly not perfect, of addressing those problems.

We need to participate in the world we all share. Isolating yourself from everyone else goes against everything we teach our kids. We share this planet with other equal human beings who also have the same rights to this planet Earth. We need to be able to sit at the same table and discuss the big issues that impact us all and share the responsibility in addressing those issues. As it stands now, the rest of the world should maybe want to kick the U.S. out, because we are responsible for 25% of world pollution, we consume 50% of the world’s natural resources, we create 70% of the world’s wars, which are ultimately for natural resources, fossil fuels and world dominance.

OH MY GOD! Why? Because they laughed in his face when he declared to them how GREAT he was? Just another example of how he has to get back at ANYONE who hurts his unbelievably- fragile ego. Retribution is mine, sayeth the Don! Eh? What a horrible pig he is! No way should we withdraw from they United Nations! With North Korea, Russia, and China ready to pounce, because they see how weak and volatile we are with this Idiot Resident of ours, we need the United Nations now MORE THAN EVER!

Leaving makes the United States of America weaker not stronger. Right now an attack on one is an attack on all. If the United States of America leaves this protection will be lost.

Do not leave the UN. We need the UN. Granted, they may not want us but we should plan for the glorious day when we have a real president again!

Enough damage has been done to any relationship the United States holds with what were our allies before #45 was handed office by Russian election interference evidently. The purposeful destruction of our government, our world standing, and any moral authority we ever had should be stopped – not any potential for humane behavior and not any potential for world peace.

Trump has pulled us out of the Paris Accords and something else (TPP?)....We used to lead the world in unity of the nations...this has protected us ....isolationism is what got us into a World War.

Since Comrade Bone Spurs doesn't know the first thing about diplomacy, I'm not surprised this question has come up. All his followers would say yes, but they're just as ignorant as he is. We need to stay in the UN, no questions asked, it's the right thing to do.

No! The U.N. is one of many ways we handle international conflicts. It gives countries a mechanism to discuss their differences and establishes important diplomatic communication channels.

A hole is one of those things that gets deeper the more you remove from it. That's exactly the position we put our selves in by even suggesting that we leave the U.N. Of all the dim witted ideas I've heard come out of congress that ranks number one. Did anybody even check Trumps credentials before attatching themselves to him?
