If TPP and Other Free Trade Agreements Pass, Does the U.S. Need a Plan for Enforcing the Rules?

Argument in favor

Trade agreements need strong enforcement provisions to keep other countries from breaking the rules of the deal. These will help protect American workers from unscrupulous competition.

85% of the trade negotiators are CEOs and lobbyists. You bet your ass they can't be trusted.

There should be a unilateral rule allowing the U.S. to withdraw and impose sanctions on any countries products that fail to abide by such agreements.

The TPP should not be passed, but if it is this has to be passed as well.

Argument opposed

Politicians should be more worried about how many jobs the U.S. is going to lose with these trade agreements than how they can keep other countries from finding clever ways to dodge the trade rules.

First, the TPP should not be passed; it is little more than a means of giving Big Ag the ability to force countries who are currently banning GMOs and the pesticides/herbicides to which they are connected the ability to sue them if those countries do not lift the bans and remove labeling requirements (they could sue on grounds that they suffered damages, and the court is a kangaroo court run by the corporations themselves). It also prevents US labeling laws because they would violate international trade agreements. THIS bill is designed to reinforce the provisions of the TPP and give those same corporations more leverage within our own borders. We will, essentially, be handing over all economic and trade law to major US corporations, and any oversight attempts would become subject to Constitutional review under Commerce.

These agreements give up way too much sovereignty and are extremely bad for US workers and should not be passed ever. Congress has a obligation to Americans first and foremost. Bad trade deals are just as bad as bad Iran deals.

Free trade should be free trade. Nothing is worse in trade than government intervention.

This is just a ploy to create a world government that is the complete opposite of what this country was founded for.

Focus should be on American jobs and the amount of jobs we can lose rather than focusing on other countries. Too many jobs get lose due to trade agreements.

Just see the impact of the Clinton era trade agreements to see why this is a bad idea. Yeah it reduces costs to business in firm of cheaper labor but jobs are exported leaving our guys unemployed.

President Obama recently signed the Trade Adjustment Assistance bill into law. Based on your opinion on how technology and innovation will be affected by these trade agreements, what are your thoughts?
