house Bill H.R. 1839

Should Medicaid Cover Home-Based Care for Children with Complex Medical Conditions?

Argument in favor

Medicaid is a vital program for many of America’s most vulnerable patients. Ensuring that it covers these patients is vital for ensuring their continued health care coverage. Drug manufacturers have been caught cheating the government and taxpayers by misrepresenting their drugs in the past — punishing them for this behavior is needed to ensure that they end this practice.

In our country, no one should be denied health insurance ever! Especially children.

H.R. 1839 AKA the “Medicaid Services Investment & Accountability Act” I’d be in support of and recommend the passage of HOUSE Bill H.R. 1839 AKA - the “Medicaid Services Investment and Accountability Act of 2019” with the provision, that safeguards are in place, which would prevent “Double Dipping” of State & Federal funds. The H.R 1839 Bill would extend Medicaid recipients’ protections against spousal impoverishment; establish a state Medicaid option to provide coordinated care to children with complex medical conditions in health homes; prevent the misclassification of drugs in the Medicaid drug rebate program; and extend a number of public health programs. Medicaid is a vital program for many of America’s most vulnerable patients. Ensuring that it covers these patients is vital for ensuring their continued health care coverage. Argument opposed

States already have broad latitude to provide a range of services, including home-based care, to children with complex medical conditions under their Medicaid programs. This bill isn’t needed to expand that authority. Drug manufacturers are already subject to a $100,000 maximum penalty for each line of false information they provide so he increased penalties in this bill are unnecessary.

As much as I care about children suffering in health homes and having trouble taking care of health care costs, WHICH IS RISING!!!, the solution is NOT MORE GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION.....Especially the Federal Government..... What we need now is force that the responsibility on the states period. People!!! Hold Your State Officials Accountable for this Crisis.. and Don't depend on the Federal Government because that isn't under their responsibility.

The rate of Medicaid spending is unsustainable. If we as a society can curb the need for public healthcare or cap Welfare rolls, then maybe. Why is it that EARNED Social Security benefits can be reduced but we can’t cap Welfare and Medicaid to those that paid into the system???

Of course! If a seriously ill child is able to be treated at home they should be allowed to be home. This is obvious!

It is far cheaper to care for people in their homes and communities than in hospitals and institutions. Outcomes are better also. $100,000 penalties are a 1 hour income for a pharmaceutical company CEO and barely pocket change for the corporations. Let’s see some real penalties for those who defraud the ill and needy.

It doesn’t? This seems like an issue of when the care is needed, it should be converted. If children could grow to be healthy citizens, we should cover it.

Everything that can be done to help the child should be and If their care provider thinks this can best be handed at home instead of the hospital then it it should be done so. It’s children, come on.

This is something that come close to my heart. I know what it is like to have a sick child. My oldest daughter was a cardiac patient from birth. There were many times in her life that it would have been better for her to receive some of her care at home instead of driving hundreds of miles per year. I also wonder if she had been able to rest at home and get therapies at home if she wouldn’t have gotten as sick to the point of death. There are many things that could have contributed. But if she could have gotten more home based care, it would have benefited her. My only hope is that more is done to prevent more children from going through what my Danielle went through. It is what she would have wanted.

Oh, Linda, I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what you must have gone through. I certainly hope this will change so no other child is refused the choice to be at home with their family, if that’s will benefit the child. I’m sure that would be a big help to the rest of the family, too! However, with our anti-everyone-who is-not-rich-or-white Resident wanting to destroy the ACA, without giving us a viable alternative, I’m afraid there is very little chance this will ever happen during this Administration!

If you want Medicaid recipients to work, then you need to provide childcare for their kids.
