Should U.S. Diplomacy Seek to Bolster American Businesses?

Argument in favor

American businesses’ global operations play a critical role in the health of the U.S. economy as a whole. U.S. diplomatic efforts should take businesses’ needs into consideration so they can compete against state-owned or state-backed enterprises based in countries like China.

Gee, you mean a US Government that actually defends our interests and puts the American citizen first? Novel idea. As opposed to leftist, beta male apologists who undermine our nations sovereignty, security and economic interests at every turn.

Economic diplomacy is necessary to both promote the health of the American economy and to counter growing Chinese influence in developing countries.

Argument opposed

While it’s important for the federal government to try to level the playing field for American businesses competing abroad, federal agencies engaged in diplomacy shouldn’t prioritize economic considerations above other considerations.

Diplomacy should be about peace and cooperation, not business. I’m tired of money being the most important thing in this country.

This could lead to compromising ethics and should not be considered as the only factor in negotiations

No! No more using government funds & influence for the benefit big business - especially NOT to address a non-existent problem. Foreign countries would do business with the US if we would stop bullying them with sanctions & tariffs, honor our treaties & somehow restore our trustworthiness.

It is not the function off diplomacy to bolster specific Corporations or businesses. The first and foremost responsibility of diplomacy is peace.

H.R 1704 the “Championing American Business Through Diplomacy Act I support and recommend the passage of the House bill H.R 1704 the “Championing American Business Through Diplomacy Act of 2019” which would seek to bolster the competitiveness of American businesses abroad by prioritizing U.S. economic and commercial diplomacy through the State Dept., Dept. of Commerce, and U.S. diplomatic missions around the world. American businesses’ global operations play a critical role in the health of the U.S. economy as a whole. U.S. diplomatic efforts should take businesses’ needs into consideration so they can compete against state-owned or state-backed enterprises based in countries like China. If American businesses want to promote themselves across the world, they can do that, but it’s not the job of the United States government to bolster U.S. companies abroad. Business and government are two separate entities and this is one of the reasons why we need to get private money out of politics!

Can’t see any diplomacy at all coming from this administration. All they ALL CARE ABOUT IS PROFITS FOR THEIR POCKETS. IF TRUMP ACTUALLY CARED ABOUT AMERICAN BUSINESSES HE WOULD NEVER HAD PUT TARIFFS ON THEM. Yes. Those tariffs are being paid by US AMERICANS. No one else is paying. We pay because THEY RAISE ALL PRICED ON EVERYTHING THEY SELL TO MAKE UP FOR THE STUPID TARIFFS. Nothing Trump has done had one whit of diplomacy in it. This bunch doesn’t know anything about diplomacy. $$$$ is the BOTTOM LINE FOR THEIR POCKETS.

Another Republican idea to rip off what is left of the money of the board. This would put money in the rich people‘s pockets. Republicans don’t do anything to benefit the 98%er’s🖕🖕🏾
