house Bill H.R. 168

Should Deported Parents & Spouses of U.S. Citizens Get a Pathway to Citizenship?

Argument in favor

Barriers to the reentry of U.S. citizens parents or spouses who have been deported should be removed, it’s unjust to keep families apart.

It used to be that if you married a US citizen you became a US citizen. When the hell did that change?

Argument opposed

If a person has been deported because they entered the country illegally they should be ineligible for legal status to live in the U.S. permanently.

While I don’t directly disagree with this bill, there needs to be an overhaul of the immigration process before lawmakers start trying to do things of this sort. Instead of trying to piece meal a policy together actually do your job and compromise with each other. Doing some quick research on Google, take it as you wish, it takes minimum of a year to get a green card then actually get official citizenship. I feel with the technology we have today this could be vetted quicker but the officials need to ensure the people trying to come in are not going to posed a potential threat.

They are still illegal then the children if old enough become the sponsors and they should go through the system. Read your immigration process my had to be a sponsor for her husband whom spent the last 14 years spending 6 months here then back in the UK. They knew each other and they decided to marry the immigration office required she sponsor him and she had to go through a intense investigation as did he. 22 meetings you can not miss with $5,000 in fees and still now he was approved, he has a 6 month DL and has to go back and renew it after another 6 months for his permanent DL. This all took 2 to 3 years and the system works why can’t these people do the same. You Democratic assholes stand up and sponsor them show you care for them not just getting illegal their vote then dump them like a tool. Take them into their homes we know Pelosi would not she already chased them away from her walled in home. So use the system and stop acting like a child.

If Melania’s family can have a pathway to citizenship, every American should have the same opportunity.

Immigrants have historically been our greatest asset as a nation. Every effort should be made to reunite immigrant family members as this program outlines.

Have some humanity. If a person shows respect to this country, help them to stay. Especially if they have family here. There’s numerous reasons why a person may have overstayed their visa, even come here illegally. But if they are working, they are supporting a family, then they should be given a chance.

Although I support this bill I have absolutely no faith in Congress or the Administration when it comes to immigration. This bigoted, racist, craziness has been going on a very long time. In the 1910’s my grandmother, who was born in this country and a U.S. citizen, had her citizenship stripped from her because she married a German immigrant. Both of them went through the steps to gain citizenship, my grandmother included, even though she was born here.

I’m all in favor of a legal pathway. We need a wall to stop human trafficking and drugs. Why can’t people grasp this simple concept?? The media is lying to you

Immigrants who abide by the law benefit our country in a huge way. They should not be held in line because others cannot follow the law and overwhelm our immigration system. Let’s start praising and making it easier on those who did not start their lives in this country by committing a crime. Illegal immigration is immoral and hurts legal immigrants more than anyone else.

The way families are being torn apart is inhuman, and the current laws are being applied inconsistently and in racist ways. How did Melania and her parents get citizenship if it is not applied like this for some people? Stop traumatizing children by ripping their parents away from them. This bill only addresses people currently in this situation. It is a step in the right direction, but we still need humane immigration reform.
