house Bill H.R. 1624

Modifying the Affordable Care Act to Protect the Small Group Market

Argument in favor

This portion of the Affordable Care Act was poorly designed, and this bipartisan change will help businesses of a certain size avoid increases in the cost of providing coverage.

Although I'd like to see this repealed in entirety, modifying it is a good start.

The ACA is a mess - poorly thought out, poorly implemented, and overpriced. Aside from harming more that it helps. The size of the bill, and speed with which it passed reek of political gaming, rather than a responsible attempt to fix a problem. Short of repeal in favor of an effective policy, anything to fix even parts is good

For those that vote NAY on this issue, your the same sort that complain about corporations possessing to much power. Please understand that the "evil corporations" are the ones pushing these bills, in the effort to drive out the competition of smaller businesses. Thus tightening there grip on the marketplace.

Argument opposed

The broader definition of small businesses should be allowed to go forward as scheduled, as there is nothing wrong with the way the Affordable Care Act was written.

Our government's primary responsibility is not to protect businesses, but to protect citizens. This legislation only protects the business owner. Rather, rejecting this legislation helps protect employees #51-100 by helping to ensure quality health coverage options. Any additional financial burdens should fall on the business, rather than the employee. As Roosevelt said, "No Business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country." In the 21st century, health coverage is a necessary part of a living wage. The greater good in this case is evident.

The people should be protected, not the businesses. If businesses that don't quite make the cut for small businesses need more help, then find a way to provide it that does not burden the workers.

No. The ACA should be repealed and replaced. Portability of insurance across state lines should be a part of the new equation, and coverage for some small vulnerable groups should receive consideration. Big-Pharma should not be involved with negotiations until major structural decisions have been made. With every piece of legislation, since this administration took power the first time, exploitation of the middle class has been demonstrated by almost ALL of our politicians, and the WORSE aspects of political activity disguised as compassion. THAT is why the rich got richer, the public overall, particularly the middle class, have suffered.

The ACA is a horrible law that should be repealed in its entirety. However, incremental changes are better than nothing when protecting Americans from the Democrats.

the whole ACA needs to be repealed and the free market needs all the support of government to reduce regulatory constraints enabling it to do so.

It needs to be repealed. Government needs to stay out of it—including its involvement prior to Obamacare. In addition, companies meed to get out of it as well and stop offering it as a benefit. Companies need to give to the employees the amount that they would have given to the insurance companies and let people buy "coverage"'if they wish. Let the market decide the cost of health care.
