house Bill H.R. 162

Should the President be Required to Publicly Disclose His Tax Return?

Argument in favor

Requiring the disclosure of a president’s federal income tax return would make the public aware of any conflict of interest and encourage presidents to divest themselves of anything that may create a conflict.

This should be a requirement for ALL politicians.

If this president has taught this nation anything, it is the necessity of transparency. Whether he’s hiding something or hiding nothing at all we have the right to know. Our leaders cannot even appear to be the puppets of foreign powers or corporate conglomerates.

We have a right to know if he evaded paying taxes because if he is unwilling to disclose something that simple, what other skeletons are going to be in his closet that will prevent him from properly performing his duties.

Argument opposed

It’s wrong for Congress to require any individual to publicly disclose their tax return, even if they are the president or their spouse. Moreover, this is a partisan bill that the sponsor didn’t care to introduce during the current administration.

No one cares! His “leaked” 2005 tax records show he paid more in taxes than Bernie. Stop trying to bring stuff up and focus on improving life for American Citizens!

Not a public matter, the same way anyone else’s tax returns are not a public matter.

We MUST know there are no Special Interests that Threaten the Security and Compromise any of America’s interests for the profit of the President. This Nations heart and soul is currently under attack as the current President and his mob like Family push for a dictatorship. The silence and complicity of the GOP Congress will pay in 2020.

Yes, it should be a requirement for anyone serving as President, Congress, and Supreme Court. I don’t really care about seeing them; however, since as taxpayers who pay their salaries in addition to electing them, it’s fair.

Previous presidents did so out of respect for the office and the right of We the People to know what kind of person we are putting in office. This POTUS has disrespected the entire election process, so now to prevent future copycats from screwing up again, we will need a law requiring them to provide copies of their tax returns BEFORE their names go on the ballot,

He or she must disclose tax returns. Additionally he or she must display strong principles and character and possess a demonstrated record of honesty. He or she must have a healthy respect for his or her fellow man and for the truth. He or she must value minorities, women, poor and disabled people and be empathetic. Character matters.

If the POTUS is required to publicly release his tax returns, so should the rest of all elected officials. Enough with “Do as I say, not as I do.” It would be amazing to see how career politicians become multi-millionaires during/after their term(s). #TransparencyForAll #CountryOverParty

In Trumps case yes because he wants no one to see them. My guess is that he does believe that some of his actions need to remain hidden from view. It’s rather hard to believe as arrogant as he is.

No, this is not required by the constitution. Even if he did, it wouldn’t satisfy the haters, so there is no point.
