Does a Counseling Program for Female Vets Need to be Permanent?

Argument in favor

While women have been taking on a greater role in the U.S. military, the mental health care available to them is lagging behind and needs to expand. This is a step in the right direction that can be built upon in the future.

I do not understand how this question could even come up. Obviously, it's a no-brainer.

It shouldn't be needed, but until woman receive the rights of our male population, men's violence toward women will probably continue.

Stop kicking the can down the road. You can do this and more. This is a good start.

Argument opposed

This counseling should be available to all women veterans — whether they recently separated from the military or if they left the Armed Forces decades ago. Including childcare would encourage more women veterans to use these services.

The fact that this is targeted for just women is a catastrophe. It should be for EVERYONE who served.

As a disabled veteran, I can attest to the fact that female vets receive as high quality care as the males do and it's tailored to the needs of the females.

Exsisting programs are adequate. The VA is short of funds now.

Real simple.......FIX THE VA and then we would not need more and duplicate services.

This issue is a yet another distraction from the chronic systemic problem: The VA needs a complete overhaul. It's a disgrace that President Obama has neglected the VA for the eight years he has been Commander-in-chief.

If this was targeted specifically at men it would be sexist. Intellectual honesty. It's it's bad in one situation then it's not good in another.

Duh. YES! It is fashionable for legislators to verbally support veterans while, in reality, almost all proposals that would benefit veterans have been defeated. In this atmosphere of peeing on every wall while doing NOTHING productive, the needs of all veterans but especially women veterans are completely ignored. If we are going to be in constant war, the legacy of George W. Bush & Dick Cheney, it is non-negotiable to give adequate care in all areas to ALL veterans!

To think that female service members and vets are treated the same is a joke. If you actually think this then I guess you also think rape victims ask for it for dressing a "certain way".

This kind of service should be available for all that and tailored to the specific veterans condition and needs. But as women are severely under served by our current system using this for some. Of time should help bring the VA benefits into proper alignment

Absolutely. Women face unique problems in the military just because they are women.
