Making Pet Meds Mobile Sans a Separate Permit (H.R. 1528)

What is H.R. 1528?
(Updated September 12, 2018)
This bill was enacted on August 1, 2014
This bill would amend the Controlled Substances Act to allow a veterinarian to transport and dispense controlled substances (for example, anesthesia) in the usual course of veterinary practice outside of the registered location, thereby permitting mobile vet units to not break the law and inadvertently run afoul of the Drug Enforcement Agency by carrying pet meds in an oversized truck. Normally, a separate registration would be required for work past a veterinary's walls; this bill would make such a separate permit unnecessary.
Argument in favor
Common-sense legislation that allows vets to take their medicine out into the field, helping more animals.
Argument opposed
Has the potential to increase the circulation of drugs in a community, thereby possibly increasing crime.
Impact
The bill impacts where veterinarians can legally take medicine.
Cost of H.R. 1528
The CBO estimates no significant impact on the federal budget.
