house Bill H.R. 1501

If Local Schools Approve, Should Off-Duty & Retired Cops be Allowed to Carry Concealed Firearms in School Zones as Security?

Argument in favor

Some schools, especially in rural districts, don’t have the resources for a security presence and if a school wants to allow off-duty or retired cops to carry concealed guns nearby in a school zone for protection it should be able to. It could deter or stop a school shooting and save lives.

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. Anything else is just rainbows and unicorns.

If you vote no here, you are part of the problem. Does anyone really think criminals are going to be guilted into following the law if they can even read a gun free zone sign? This is helpful!

Argument opposed

Allowing off-duty or retired law enforcement officers to carry a concealed gun in a school zone will only increase the danger to students and increases the odds of an incident occurring that could end in tragedy. It’s not worth the risk even if it could deter or stop a school shooting.

Schools are not prisons. Guns do not make us safer. The “good guy with a gun” myth is just that. What exactly constitutes “qualified” anyway? No guns in schools! Period!

Violence does not solve violence. A school is meant to be a place where you can feel certain that you are safe. When there are guns around, no one can feel that way.

This is not 1984. Generally, police have the wrong personality to be in a school environment. Armed uniformed security guards is not a solution. It fosters antagonistic military presence. We do not live in North Korea or Nazi Germany. This is not the ideals of American Society. If you want t stop school violence, stop oppression. Stop broadcasting Fox News. Stop all Conservative radio and tv shows and online content. They are nothing more than propaganda that fuels anger and hate against innocent victims.

House Bill HR-1501 which amends the “Gun Free School Zones Act” I’m in strong support of and recommend the House Bill H.R. 1501 which would amend the “Gun Free School Zones Act” to allow a qualified off-duty or retired law enforcement officer to carry a concealed firearm in a school zone if a local school board adopts a policy allowing it. Current law allows only on-duty police officers to carry firearms in school zones. The bill would impose no requirements on local school districts. They have been trained and qualified to use fire arms. They will need training in how to deal with those with mental health issues. They should work with local law enforcement for gang intelligence. They should also identify any gang members in the school and those students with behavioral issues. Teachers should concentrate on teaching not security.

To you gun control freaks: Which gun laws would you like to see put in place AND would they have stopped any of the recent mass shootings? The answer is no. If someone wants to commit a mass murder they will find a way. Stop trying to control everyone else who follows the law because you’re too dumb to separate mental illness from guns. To answer the a question: yes, allow responsible gun owners to carry where they please.

How about you raise taxes on the rich SO YOU CAN FULLY FUND EDUCATION AND SRO’S!!! By actually funding education you can have an STO on campus at all times during school hours. ALSO, start getting real republiKKKan’s start listening to We the People and start enacting common sense gun laws. Off Duty officers are going to be on a school campus how often? Retired officers may not be as good of a shot as they where on the force, do you want them shooting around students? Start getting real and stop with your bullshit.
