house Bill H.R. 1452

No TRUMP Act: Should the Feds be Barred From Spending Taxpayer Money at Trump Properties?

Argument in favor

The federal government should not spend taxpayer funds at properties owned by the president because it would create a conflict of interest.

Seriously. This is a no brainer and violates so many codes of ethics and conflicts of interest. For Gods sakes Jimmy Carter put his farm into a blind trust.

Absolutely! Trump violates the emoluments clause every single day that he collects money and allows himself to be influenced by those who enrich him, potentially at the country's expense. It is utterly scandalous. If he can't bring himself to be ethical, and he surely is unable to, then we must impose it on him.

Argument opposed

There’s no need for legislation to prevent the federal government from spending taxpayer dollars at properties owned by the president.

Trump is already donating his money. He is working for you for free 🤔 how awesome to show your appreciation, by continually attacking nothing burgers... Can we actually get onto making America great again rather than these childish questions, bills and ridiculous excuses for lawmakers.

Let us show our support of this partisan bill by pouring gasoline on ourself and igniting it. That surely should shine some light on this subject. Let us also not forget that house and private beach in Hawaii or the Hamptons. Really can't remember if Obama spent any time in his favorite home in gangster Chicago.

Isn't this already a law?? It would be nice if congress actually enforced the laws. Checks and balances.

Emoluments have always been prohibited so that [real] presidents would be working for the good of the country not to line their own pockets. The corruption of #45 is shocking. Yes, no extraction of American money should be allowed by the Swamp People in the White House. Amendment 25 should remove this man and those who came with him should be fired as in Pence campaigning with his homophobic misogynistic agenda. We need White House concerned with the welfare of the people of our country not with his own impairments and fragility he tries to repair with massive money infusions.

Trumputin Tinyhands has been in violation of the foreign emoluments clause of the US constitution from day one, in addition to sucking the Secret Service budget dry and transferring all that taxpayer money into his own personal coffers. This is the most base form of public corruption in recent memory, perhaps in all of US history. Not one more dime of taxpayer money at Trump properties.

Yes. It is absurd that the president or his family is profiting off of the presidency while the country is footing the bill. This shouldn't even be an issue because he should have divested. But since it is... if it were a normal person, I would say the government should pay whatever the true cost of goods or services are. But since they are billionaires, and the trumps are literally bankrupting the secret serve, I think there is a strong argument to be made for everything at trump family locations to be provided free.

Why is this even a question? The entire campaign season was designed and orchestrated around the republican candidate professing to be more honest and ethical than every one of his opponents. Yet now we sit and watch important programs being cut from the budget, being eliminated by administrative orders, and to what end? To sit back and watch elected and appointed officials profit at the taxpayers expense?

It's in the constitution that no president while being president should profit from it. Taxpayers money should not be spent on his nor his families businesses.

If this is not a form of money-funneling corruption and profiteering, what is? To claim it is not is purely disingenuous. Don't care if it's a D or an R doing this - it should not be allowed.

Although I would agree we have more important legislation to worry about, this measure fills in where the emoluments clause leaves a hole. The POTUS should not be profiting from our tax funds. Period.
