house Bill H.R. 1338

Citizens United 2: Citizens Strike Back

Argument in favor

In a democracy, every voice should be heard and represented equally. Huge campaign donations distort that equality and the government needs to impose limitations - even if politicians won't profit from them.

Argument opposed

By restricting how much an organization can donate to a political campaign’s advertising efforts, you’re restricting countless individuals’ freedom of speech. That’s unconstitutional, my friend.

We live in a constitutional republic the people voice should always be louder than someone with money to give.

No brainer here. Corporations are not people, and do not deserve the same rights.

The amount of a donation does not increase or diminish the quality of the candidate our the force of his/her campaign. Some corporations, and individuals, just try to buy the Oval Office. That should be stopped.

This is the worst court decision made by our high court. We will never be able to do the actual people's work when our elected officials are busy working for corporate 'people'.

The Citizens United ruling disenfranchises the average person in favor of those with money. It needs to be that no one person or organization can control an election or elected official with financial contributions as it is now.

Only individual people with a SSN should be able to donate to any politician, political campaign or organization and it should be limited to $1000 per year to any individual or organization. No business, company, corporation, union, bank, charity, lobby group, or group of any kind can contibute. Individuals with a SSN may contribute to as many as they want but a max of $1000 each. Oh and since we should be going to a flat tax there are no tax deductions for political contributions.

It is estimated that 2 Billion dollars will be spent this 2016 election. This is nothing but manipulation by Multimillionaires and Billionaires and takes away democracy for the people. If Congress was truly working FOR THE PEOPLE they should have over turned that decision. I support that all Congressperson wear patches on their suits showing which companies they are getting donors from.

One person, one vote. This is a time of possibly the largest gap of wealth and poverty in the United States. Allowing Citizens United to filter unlimited money to canditates they support and against candidates they want out of office, the wealthy control who is elected. The one person, one vote is no longer relevant. Citizens United destroys democracy. The Supreme Court members who ruled in favor of Citizens United, are as bad as the ones who were pro-slavery. Just because they made it law, does not make it moral, ethical, just or a democracy. The citizens of integrity in the United States and beyond see this ruling as a failure to democracy. If the U.S. is to have a true democracy and not turn into a third world nation, Citizens United needs to be overturned.
