house Bill H.R. 1102

Should Congress Monitor Russian Support of Venezuela’s Maduro Regime?

Argument in favor

Russian military influence in Venezuela has been growing in recent years, and the Maduro regime is leaning heavily on Russian support. It’s important for Congress to remain apprised of the situation to ensure that Russia doesn’t threaten U.S. allies in Latin America.

1) Maintain the principle of the Monroe Doctrine. 2) Putin‘s adventurism needs to be firmly and consistently contained.

Argument opposed

The State Dept. is already required to conduct threat assessments around the world as part of its mission — there’s no need for this bill.

Hands off Venezuela! Our history of regime change, supporting military coups, and installing banana republics in South and Central America has destroyed any credibility the USA may have had in attempting to influence politics in the region.

I don’t trust Wasserman Schultz to blow her nose without a monitor. There must be money in it for her. This is already the State department’s job. It’s unnecessary. Is it possible just to let people do their jobs and myob.

How is this any of our business? Are we gearing up for a military intervention against Venezuela and Russia? As long as none of this is a threat to U.S. national security, there’s no reason for Congress to lose their minds over this.

No, but Congress should monitor Russia’s intervention into our elections. NOTHING has been done to prevent Russia from interfering into elections since it did everything to see that Trump was elected in 2016.

Hell Yes! Putin is trying to become KING OF THE WORLD! IT'S NOT ENOUGH THAT HE HAS AND WILL CONTINUE TO STARVE THE CITIZENS OF RUSSIA, HIS INVASION OF UKRAINE & CRIMEA AND WHAT HE IS DOING TO THE CITIZENS OF THOSE COUNTRIES. HE HAS INTERFERED WITH AMERICA'S ELECTION, GIVEN TRUMP TALKING POINTS, HAD OUR TRUMP'S "BEST PEOPLE" LIFT SANCTIONS IMPOSED BY OBAMA, NOW HE IS INTERFERING IN VENEZUELA? THE CITIZENS OF VENEZUELA ARE STARVING AND TRUMP IS CALLING THEM ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHILE THEY ARE FLEEING FOR THEIR LIVES, WHICH IS A PART OF AMERICA'S LEGAL IMMIGRATION LAWS. WHAT A TUTOR FOR TRUMP HE IS. I DAMN WELL WISH AMERICA'S CIA & FBI WOULD DO THEIR JOBS!

The US and Saudi led oil fuckery that has caused the crisis in Venezuela and which antisocialists have loved to pretend proves socialism a failed system as they ignore dozzens of successful democratic socialist countries is bad enough. The US and Saudi Arabia could have long ago NOT doomed Venezuela's oil based economy if they gave a shit about humanitarian issues. They just want tp pretend that it matters now for political points. We have enough legitimate reasons to have issues with Russia. Stop US interference around the globe.

I am sure that the State Dept. is well aware of Russia's support and intentions. Why do we waste our time on bills like this. No wonder why Congress never gets anything done. They are too busy sticking their noses in everyone else's business. Oversight - yes, interference, no.

What Congress SHOULD do is monitor Democratic Socialists support for the corrupt Venezuelan socialist regime since they apparently regard them as one of their own.
