house Bill H. Joint Res. 74

Should the Constitution Include the Right to Vote?

Argument in favor

Citizens’ ability to vote in elections is crucial to the functioning of U.S. democracy. Protecting voting rights in the Constitution will ensure that this right is protected and that all who are eligible to vote can do so.

Now, more than ever perhaps, our elected representatives need to be chosen by ALL Americans so that they represent ALL Americans.

Yes everyone of legal age should be allowed to VOTE. We the People decide how the United States of America functions. Our VOTE is how we tell elected officials if we approve of how things are being ran or not

Argument opposed

Amending the Constitution is incredibly difficult and a right-to-vote amendment is unlikely to pass. The Supreme Court has also already weighed in on the question of whether there’s a right to vote, ruling that such a right doesn’t exist.

Felons should lose their rights. They may be reinstated at a later time but not automatic.

Convicted felons forfeit the right to vote. Criminals should not be allowed to vote.

Not until what makes a citizen a citizen is agreed upon and properly enforced.
