house Bill H. Con. Res. 71

The GOP Budget for Fiscal Year 2018 and Using Reconciliation for Tax Reform and Deficit Reduction

Argument in favor

The American economy needs a boost from comprehensive, deficit-neutral tax reform and this budget resolution would let Congress use the reconciliation process to achieve that.

This is the first step toward much needed tax reform and balancing the federal budget. This is common sense and needs to be passed to clear the way.

After less than 3% growth for the entire 8 years of Obama administration. More people on food stamps and more people living pay check to pay check with a raise this economy needs more than a shot in the arm. This tax reform is similar to what President Kennedy proposed in 1961 and passed in1964. It is was projected to have huge deficits but the unemployment rate dived to 3.8% . Imagine if everyone who wanted a job is working , paying taxes and wiping out the deficits. If you say this is just tax reform for the rich you have never worked for a poor person then. Who do you think these "rich" people are hiring? They want to grow their businesses and can do so when the corporate tax goes from 39% to 29%. Then there is my personal favorite the Inheritance tax. It is not just for the rich as I found out when my husband died without a will. I paid $17,000 in inhertitantent

Have to start somewhere. Voting no keeps "STAGNANT Status Quo". We need a boost. Everyone is anticipating it. Such a shame if it doesn't happen due to stubbornness!

Argument opposed

Tax reform could be beneficial, but this budget resolution opens the door for Republicans to produce and pass an overhaul of the tax code in a partisan manner that excludes Democrats.

Stop pushing burden onto middle class and taking away support for the poor just to make rich people pay less taxes. This is NOT what this country is about.

Never vote yes on a bill that is created behind closed doors. This will only make the rich richer by lowering taxes for the wealthy and big corporations. Trump claims that it will create more jobs, but it will only create richer CEOs that make billions already. Consequently, this will increase the deficit, excusing the elimination of Medicare & Social Security. It is proven the trickle down economics DOES NOT WORK.

For Americans who are still capable of understanding simple math, removing estate taxes for the top 1% does not equal deficit reduction. Trump to base:"I get a billion dollars in tax relief. You get $500. But my plan actually hurts me and helps you."

While the House should pass a budget, it should NOT pass this version. I support The People's Budget which will be offered as an amendment. The People's Budget creates jobs, creates a pathway out of poverty, supports our veterans, creates a sustainable defense through peace and diplomacy NOT war, provides educational opportunities for all - including tuition free college and expands Social Security.

The only citizens who benefit from this tax reform are the wealthy and corporations. It’s time to stop corporate welfare

This should be done in a bi-partisan manner. This country is not made up of only wealthy republicans. Any new tax reform should include input from Democrats as well.

This is a scam. The rich and big business get cuts, the debt explodes and the country suffers.

This budget does not benefit working class Americans. The tax reform benefits the wealthiest Americans and the budget threatens essential programs.

NO welfare for the rich, NO welfare for corporations tax relief for the middle class where it will actually HELP the economy. History has shown us time and again that tax breaks for the wealthy lead to economic decline. STOP THE INSANITY!

No more tax cuts for the rich they can afford their fair share. We can't afford to make up for it. Especially if we lose the DACA kids. This is insane, they think we pay their share while working to keep a roof over our heads while they can get tax breaks and rebates? No just no! Every one that votes to give rich people more money needs to lose their seats!

If the tax reform bill is that good you should be able to get bipartisan support and not need reconciliation to get it passed! Since the bill and the Republicans are deceiving the American people, you should need 60 votes to get the bill to the floor of the Senate. Revenue neutral, what a joke!

This tax reform bill is a blatant gift to the wealthy and corporate America. You need only look at the differences in benefit from the poor to the uber-wealthy. Republicans always claim it's a boost to the economy. Sometimes that is a result but it is always led to record deficits down the road since revenue is lost and spending (especially defense) continues to increase.

This budget is bad as are the tax cuts. We should never go forward with a budget just to get it done. This budget needs to be thoughtful with no cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid or any other safety net program.
