The Daily Countable: Take Action Today!

FRIDAY, AUGUST 11, 2017

What to Watch

What Everyone Is Watching

  • What will happen next between the U.S. (and President Trump) and North Korea (and Kim Jong Un). During a meeting with reporters at his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey, Trump said his warning of "fire and fury" against Pyongyang “may not be tough enough.” The President said the rogue nation has “been doing this to our country for a long time, for many years, and it’s about time that somebody stuck up for the people of this country and for the people of other countries.” Should North Korea attack the U.S., or one of its allies, Trump said “things will happen to them like they never thought possible.”

What’s Worth Watching

  • The opioid epidemic. "The opioid crisis is an emergency, and I’m saying officially right now it is an emergency," Trump said on Thursday. "It’s a national emergency. We’re going to spend a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money on the opioid crisis." Last week, a commission tasked with helping curb abuse of the drug recommended that the White House declare opioid abuse a national emergency. Until now, the Trump administration has remained silent on the recommendation. But pressed by reporters on whether Trump needs emergency powers, the President said, “We’re going to draw it up, and we’re going to make it a national emergency."

The President: N.J.

  • The President continues his 17-day working vacation at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

  • At 3 PM EDT, the President participates in a workforce/apprenticeship discussion.

  • At 5 PM EDT., Trump meets with U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley.

The House of Representatives: OUT OF SESSION

The Senate: OUT OF SESSION

Will you do your job and curb a madman from bribing us to nuclear war with North Korea? He is going against our own military and state department begging for a fight! This is the twitter ravings of a deranged man, not a president. Preventive strikes? Fire and fury? You have to do something besides cower behind him or you might as well stand under the giant chicken

President Trump's words mean less and less. He is not speaking from strength but is instead acting like a bully and making claims he won't follow through with. I stand opposed to this administration and believe this world is safer if he has less power.

As a citizen of the United States who is extremely concerned about the threat of nuclear war, I beg you to curtail Trump's powers! Congress can do this!!! It would be a historically monumental move to save the country from being thrust into a massively destructive war! Show yourselves as men and women of courage and honor and DO THE RIGHT THING!

Please encourage your leadership to call Congress back into session immediately and passed legislation that will prevent the president from initiating nuclear war without congressional authority. Reverend Steve Harsh, Plain city, Ohio

Rep Liz Cheney R WY: Today you were quoted -"Frankly, I don’t think that the statements [Trumps threats of 'fury and fire] have been over the top” ... “If we are forced to respond ... Kim Jung Un will face the kind of response he can’t even contemplate.” 2 days ago you were quoted - "I think it’s pretty clear that same type of deterrence doesn’t work with North Korea,” Cheney said. “We need to be in a position where we’re looking at a whole range of options.” So NOW YOU really think THREATS are a VIABLE OPTION? I don't follow YOUR logic....

To my Senators (Casey and Toomey) and my Representative (Dwight Evans): President Trump needs to be removed from office by whatever legal means are necessary. He is clearly mentally unfit to wield the extreme power he has; he is a mortal danger to everyone in the United States, if not in the entire world. His war of words with North Korea is risking global catastrophe and a geological extinction event. HE MUST BE STOPPED. It is time to invoke the 25th Amendment.

I take China's warning very seriously and so should you. Our president is clearly unstable and unfit to serve. Return to D.C. and take action to protect us from our real enemy Donald Trump. Our democracy was design to prevent one person or group from having too much power. Your silence and inaction makes you complicit in the destructive nature of this administration.

Started decades ago and now we have to take action or be held hostage by a Rogue Regime. The crisis exposes the infirmity of the Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama administrations in their North Korea policies. But it goes back even earlier. It is now clear that, while his insubordination was unacceptable, General Douglas MacArthur was correct in advocating disposing of North Korea when we could have done so. The resulting loss of life would likely have been less than was caused by continuing to skirmish on the 38th Parallel for the next three years. Clinton and Carter went to NK and gave the $5 billion plus two nuclear reactors to urge them to stop their Nuclear program. Both men were hailed as peace keepers. Carter receiving a Nobel prize! In 2004 NK detonated their first missile. August of 2003 the Bush Administration got the NK to agree to a cease of the Nuclear program. In exchange NK would receive 950,000 metrics of fuel oil or economic aid worth the same. In 2009 launched a rocket and the agreement fell apart. Obama: Accordingly to the leftists at Mother Jones, the U.S. government “sank more than $239 billion (in 2016 dollars) into making some version of this Cold War daydream into reality, but as Foreign Policy indicated, Obama’s last measure did not “inspire much optimism that Kim Jong Un will submit to multiple U.N. demands to destroy the regime’s existing nuclear weapons and scrap its program to build more.” All told, the North would conduct four underground nuclear tests while Obama was in office. He stuck to diplomacy. This appears to be the fourth time. North Korea conducted underground nuclear tests on Oct. 9, 2006; May 25, 2009; and Feb. 12, 2013. So People and Representatives. I don't want to hear anymore negative talk on President Trump regarding NK the problem begin with the past Presidents Clinton even gave them the capabilities to get Nukes. If just one of these Presidents had stepped up to plate and did their job we would not be in this peril now!

I am seriously concerned about deadly consequences due to the reckless words of our president. He is not behaving like a leader but rather like someone who is running our country like a reality television show. First North Korea, then Venezuela?? Please remove him from office ASAP.

With the entire world (including Russia) begging Trump to tone down his speech/tweets his failure to do so and his need to defend his speech by claiming personal victimization, our president has once again caused me to question his judgement. Perhaps had he or anyone in his family served in combat he would be less willing to start a needless war. If he wants war he and his sons should be in the first bomber to fly instead of the sons and daughters of my friends and family.

Anything trump does at this point is 100 percent on the Republican Party. You put him in there, you let him loose, you own the results. Loss of insurance? Economic collapse? No tax on the rich, while poor people make up the difference? Nuclear war? All On You!
