UPDATE - September 7, 2018:
- The Trump administration's weekly status report on its efforts to reunite children separated from their parents as part of its "zero-tolerance" immigration policy shows that 416 children - including 15 under the age of 5 - remain in federal custody.
- Following a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union, a federal judge had ordered the Trump administration to reunite all families by July 26. The White House has now missed this deadline by 43 days.
- Government officials have said they've delayed certain reunifications because of "red flags," including parents' criminal histories or safety and well-being concerns.

Democrats Demand Action on Separated Immigrant Children
UPDATE - September 4, 2018:
- Democrats in the House are demanding that the Trump administration release a plan of how they plan to reunify the nearly 500 children who remain separated from their unauthorized immigrant parents at the U.S.-Mexico border.
"Since the Administration instituted and rescinded the zero-tolerance policy, which purposefully targeted and separated migrant children from their parents, we have yet to see the Administration present a cohesive, well-executed inter-agency plan or inter-governmental coordination with Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Mexico to ensure that these children are reunited with their families," the 20 House Democrats wrote in the letter.
- The letter, signed by Minority Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and 19 members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, was addressed to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
- Following a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union, a federal judge had ordered the Trump administration to reunite all families by July 26.
"It is the federal government's responsibility and obligation to ensure that every child that was separated is reunited with their parent or close family member,” the House lawmakers wrote. “We, therefore, renew our request for a daily status update."
