GOP Considering Another Obamacare Repeal After McCain’s Death – Do You Support Rescinding the ACA?
Join us and tell your reps how you feel!
What’s the story?
- Republican Senators are hoping Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) will appoint a successor to Sen. John McCain who, unlike the late senator, would support the GOP’s efforts to repeal Obamacare.
- “I want somebody who is for affordable health care, and right now Obamacare is not affordable, nor is health care, which is a direct result of Obamacare,” Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) told The Hill.
- “If we re-engage in that discussion in some point in the future, it would be nice to have members who enable us to pass it,” Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Thune of South Dakota said when asked about the possibility of ACA repeal legislation coming up for a future vote.
- Republican Sen. Ron Johnson (WI) agreed, saying he hopes Arizona’s next senator will be a “strong ally” who “recognizes that Obamacare is not a proper solution.”
“It hasn’t worked. It’s created a lot of harm and damage to real people,” Johnson added.
- “I’d love to have somebody to take care of that,” Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) said of repealing Obamacare.
- In July 2017, McCain said he could not vote for his party’s health care bill "in good conscience" after it didn't receive proper hearings from members of the Senate. In one of his most memorable moments, McCain walked across the Senate floor and gave a dramatic thumbs-down.
