The Daily Countable: Take Action Today!

FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017

What to Watch

What Everyone Is (Re)Watching

  • McCain’s "no" vote on the “skinny repeal” bill. At around 1:40 a.m., Senator John McCain of Arizona joined fellow Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska in opposing the GOP plan that would have stripped away key parts of Obamacare. For now, this derails the GOP’s effort to deliver on their near decade-long promise to repeal and replace Obamacare. The next step is unknown, but expect lots of commentary – and tweets, like this one – today.
  • If you're curious what the president can do to implode Obamacare (Hint: there's a few things) read up on Countable.

What’s Worth Watching

  • During a rally in Iowa on June 21st, the President said, "You have a gang called MS-13. They don’t like to shoot people. They like to cut people. They do things that nobody can believe. These are true animals. We are moving them out of the country by the thousands, by the thousands. We’re getting them out, MS-13." Today, the President travels to Long Island to deliver remarks on MS-13 to Federal, State and local law enforcement. Watch live @ 1:40 pm EDT.

The President: WHERE?

  • In the morning, President Trump will meet with Nikki Haley, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, in the Oval Office.

  • After switching planes and airports, Trump will arrive in Long Island to give a speech on El Salvadoran gang MS-13. (See above)

The House of Representatives: IN SESSION

The Senate: OUT

  • The Senate will return Monday, July 31.

Enjoy the weekend, Countamigos.

Thank you John Mc Cain for showing others what courage and right thinking look like and for not following the pied piper down the drain along with his Republican supporters. Portman should learn from you.

Every member of congress, the senate, house and the President if they are fighting needs to be sent to Iraq, Afghanistan or one of the Countries fighting. Trump needs to stop acting like a spoiled brat. I voted for him, but unless he starts acting like a President who cares about the American people instead of just getting his way, needs to be impeached.

I very proud of my Senator John McCain. I am praying and hoping he gets the best healthcare available. We need this patriot in the senate. My other senator Flake is useless. I am looking forward to removing him from Arizona politics in 2018 election.

I called John McCain, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski to thank them. I also called them multiple times to ask them to vote no along with others. I am from Vermont but I felt the vote was for all of us. I believe that the senate should not adjourn for recess. They can go home but officially not adjourn. It's been done before. I fear he will fire Sessions and appoint someone not needing confirmation. I would rather see that than see all hell break lose like Lindsey Graham said. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! I am exhausted from Trump's antics.

Thank you for saving our healthcare Time to move on Now it's time to remove the new hire scaramouch from the White House That is and was conduct unbecoming a public employee at the very least Threatening to kill people and the use of such vile and disgusting language Not that we all haven't used Bad language , but my tax dollars are not going to pay for this terroristic behavior And if u threatened to kill someone anywhere else you'd be taken away in cuffs Remove this individual before he makes good on his threats If he can't control himself after one week I hate to see him under stress

Glad to hear Trumpcare is off the table. NOW, fix the collapsing insurance industry. Obamacare was a huge step in a positive direction however Obamacare is dependent upon federal funding and subsidies. YES, without action and funding Healthcare will collapse. It would be irresponsible to act like a spoiled child and do nothing. Republicans, Democrats what is the bipartisan plan to fix the portions of Obamacare that need to be addressed?

Predictable and disappointing to see the lack of moral courage from both of my NC Senators. Your willingness to gamble on the integrity of a weak response from Ryan was disheartening. Now get to work across the aisle and through regular order to actually improve health care access, quality, and affordability. Yes, I realize that will take work and thinking. You can do it.

⚠️Are you from Virginia ✅then please take note “Delegates Anderson💰, Marshall 💰and Loupassi 💰are directly benefitting 💰💰💰from a Koch-funded💣organization whose number one goal is to take health care away from 32 million people,” said House Democratic Caucus spokeswoman Katie Baker. “This is not surprising, however, given that all three of these men voted to block Medicaid expansion and deny health coverage to 400,000 Virginians. Depending on which version of Trumpcare emerges, more than half a million Virginians could lose coverage. We ask Delegates Anderson, Marshall and Loupassi directly: do you, like the Koch Brothers backing your campaign, support repeal of the ACA?”🛑please stop the men from doing more damage.

I understand the shortcomings of the ACA and agree with those who say change is required. I accept that the recent "Repeal and Replace" effort has failed. Polls and senate voting clearly demonstrates that Americans and their representatives do not want a change which takes health care coverage from millions of our citizens. It is my belief that the continuation of the failed effort will result in damage to the party, especially if it is approved through some clever slight of hand or sabotage of ACA by the executive branch. Find another way to get the money for tax reform.

Make sure Russian sanctions bill is law before you go to recess. No pocket veto. Make him sign sanctions bill or stay in session. 10 days so it becomes law.
