Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.), who has been battling an aggressive case of glioblastoma for over a year, has chosen to discontinue medical treatment, his family announced in a statement Friday.
“Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: he had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious. In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of ideas and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict. With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment.”

He has been a true hero to this country, regardless if you agree with his politics or not. I wish him comfort and to be surrounded by family and friends.
It doesn’t matter if you’re liberal or conservative, this man is a war hero and deserves our upmost respect. Godspeed, we will miss you.
Thank you, Senator McCain. You’re fighting for justice, decency, and Democracy even with your dying breaths.
John McCain is one of a handful of Republicans still tied to traditional morality and justice. I’m a registered and elected Democrat, but I have always deeply respected McCain’s character regardless of our political differences.
I met John McCain once. My mom died of cancer and I know how awful that process is. My heart hurts for him, his family, friends, and for America. He is one of the last real Republicans. A member of the opposition that is not a enemy. God Grant You Peace, and Thank You for your Service, Senator.
Strength and support to Senator McCain as he chooses to leave this place on his own terms. Thank you sir, for a lifetime of honorable service. Respect.
Today the word ‘hero’ is overused. In fact, just yesterday a man was called a ‘hero’ for withholding the truth and being convicted of eight counts of financial fraud. Sen. John McCain has lived a life of service to the American people. He bravely served in the U.S. Navy (1958 - 1980), in the House of Representatives, (1983 - 1987), and as a U.S. Senator since 1987. Sen. McCain has admitted that he has made his share of mistakes. However, his incredible sense of honor, sense of responsibility and intelligence surpasses any of his faults. Sen. McCain is the first to stand up for the truth. Who could forget while campaigning as the Republican Presidential Candidate, Sen. McCain’s immediate reaction in correcting a woman in a Town Hall meeting who began to repeat lies regarding President Obama’s birth in the U.S. and religious affiliation? The respect for Sen. McCain, transcends party lines as he is first and foremost, an American. He is first and foremost a hero.
God bless him. He has earned the epitaph “well done, good and faithful servant.”
God’s speed John McCain
Thank you Senator McCain for your service to our Country. Thank you to your family for sharing you with us all these years. We know this decision is the best for you and your family, but it’s hard — hard on those of us you are leaving behind. Your shoes are going to be difficult to fill and will not be in the same caliber of service as yours, but hopefully, the good people of Arizona will rise to the occasion and elect someone to take your place who will be as good a person as you are and have the well-being of the Country ahead of Party first and foremost as you always did. Godspeed to you John McCain.
Please respect one mans lifetime of service. Wax negative elsewhere. Give ugly no response. Respect.
Senator McCain deserves our utmost respect during this difficult time. After a lifelong career of public service he is still a “maverick” in my eyes.
Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) Our families prayers go out to not only Senator McCain and the McCain family, at this their time of, sorrow. As a fellow Vietnam 🇻🇳 veteran I’m proud of the service that he has performed, both in the U.S. Navy and Congress, for our great nation. 8*24*18 ...... SneakyPete
This is a sad day for America.
Salute to a MAN of his word. Never agreed with your politics always but you are a true American hero.
I’ve had my differences with Senator McCain — nevertheless, he’s truly a great American and someone to be admired. He has my respect.
He is a hero and an honorable man. He showed values! He loves this country❤️😢
