Good morning, CountaFolks!
It could be the last week before the House leaves on its August recess, or it could not. It all hinges on the Senate health care vote to repeal Obamacare this week. Expect congressional pushback if leadership continues to call for canceling even part of the recess. To be fair, if I were about to leave on vacation and my boss said no at the last minute I’d be cranky, too.
Meanwhile, this week the White House will celebrate "American Heroes Week." (Last week the White House hosted "Made in America Week" and next week will be "American Dreams Week.") So here at Countable, we decided to highlight some notable Americans too: namely, Michigan's Attorney General Bill Schuette who charged five officials with involuntary manslaughter over the Flint, MI water crisis last month.
This afternoon President Trump will be meeting with citizens who feel they’ve been victimized by Obamacare and then he’ll give remarks on health care.
This evening President Trump will speak at the 2017 National Boy Scout Jamboree in Beaver, WV. No word on whether there’ll be time for a workshop on knot tying.
Voting on a bill to authorize spending by the intelligence community in fiscal year 2018.
Voting on a bill to give military spouses the same residency exception for taxes and voting that their partners get.
Voting on a bill to reform the Small Business Administration’s microloan program.
Voting on 14 other bills.
For now it’s a read, though watching public testimony is likely in the future. Read Jared Kushner’s written statement to the Senate Intelligence Committee in advance of this morning's closed door testimony right here.
Watch President Trump practice his knot tying and outdoor survival skills with the Boy Scouts as he addresses the Jamboree at 6:15 PM EDT.
Be well, CountaBuddies!

To do my duty to God and my Country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Will Trump ever meet with citizens who have been saved by the ACA? Will he never try to reach out to Americans with opposing views? If he continually only appeases his base he will be a one term president.
Vote no on GOP healthcare. Fix the healthcare we have.
Vote no on healthcare. Go back to the drawing board and work on a bipartisan plan.
I was present at the 1964 Boy Scout National Jamboree on Valley Forge, PA, when Lyndon Johnson spoke. A Republican kid, I was not inspired. Today I regret that the man who represents the Republican Party, Donald Trump, will get the same podium. The moral vacuum inside Trump's cranium is so far removed from the simple ethic of the Boy Scout creed that I cannot imagine any relevance to Trump's moment.
ACA has been substantial in reducibg my stress as an individual with chronic illness. Does it need reform? Yes. Should it stay? Yes. It has a decent framework for what we need. Use it as a foundation to continue improvements. Add in reform for CEOs of insurance and Big Pharma so that they don't make millions because of my DNA.
I am seriously beginning to wonder if, Senators Hatch and Lee, either of you have any moral compass at all. HOW is it that you just continue to ignore everything that this President does to incite upheaval everywhere he goes? He has now used an organization like the Boy Scouts to rant and rave and spread his vitriol. Does this not bother you at all? If not it should and if it doesn't you should be ashamed to call yourselves moral in any way, shape or form. These are children for God's sake and it is beyond belief that anyone would accept this kind of behavior from any adult let alone the President of the United States.
It is immoral to take health care away from Americans! Trumpcare is despicable. Repealing the ACA was not a mandate from the from the majority of Americans!! Vote No on this bill!
Do NOT VOTE FOR A BILL YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S IN IT. Explain how any of these bills coordinated in secrecy is a democratic process. YOUR CONSTITUENTS NEED HEALTHCARE. OLDER CITIZENS NEED MEDICAID. DISABLED PEOPLE NEED HEALTHCARE. PEOPLE WITH PREEXISTING CONDITIONS NEED HEALTHCARE. NOT JUST ANY HEALTHCARE. HEALTHCARE THEY CSN AFFORD.
The President took the stage at the Boy Scout jamboree and used that bully pulpit to boo Hilary Clinton. As a Eagle Scout (1969, Bronze Palm) I find this appalling. As in his speech in front of the CIA's memorial wall, the President simply can't resist making everything about him. This is not the kind of leadership appropriate to the occasion, if ever.
If you vote to repeal the ACA to assuage Trump's massive ego and hatred for Obama you are neither patriots nor decent representatives of your state. You will be taking healthcare away from millions of Americans and resisting any possible cooperation between parties. I can't fathom that you can be so heartless and void of compassion. The COB has demonstrated clearly how many Americans will loose their healthcare and how much higher their deductibles will be. You will be as guilty as Trump if you throw the elderly, those with existing conditions, mental health issues and women into the gutter. Put your petty party issues aside for once, show some courage and real patriotism. Step back from the despotic abyss that Trump is creating and do the right thing.
Trump has US Government tied in an intractable Gordian knot.Who has the insight to wield the Sword of Damacles?
It is astounding that Trump never gives equal time to ALL of the people that have benefited from the ACA. Instead he presents a handful of citizens that don't want to pay premiums but use the emergency room or hospitals and run up my premiums because they can't be denied medical services. If you are using medical EVERYONE should pay so the burden is not placed on the few who pay! In addition, to the anti-union whiners: Why don't I hear you complaining about insurance carriers that are paying off politicians to vote with their industry and protect their special interests? That's money I pay for health coverage, not political interests. Just a FYI, my union dues have to be checked off for political dues!!!
Because of ths actions of those trying to kill the aca. Thers is no protection to the consumer.. i recently lost my medicare suppliment and priscription coverage. Even thouvh i had paid 2 months premium online as i couldnt reach anyone at their help line. They claim i didnt pay. I have a confirmation number and bank statement saying otherwise. They claim they sent a letrer saying payment didnt go through. Which i never received. So when i tryed to appeal. I was told that to bad so sad. And that i cant get insurance because we are in penalty period. Plus if i choose in October i wouldnt be able to use benefits till april. And zjnce fhey cancelled they wouldnt just reopen my policy. It has to be repurchased. They feel they can do this to consumers because they are sure of the repeal replace. So here i am with several severe health issues, i cant afford meds for as one alone cost almost 200.00 and i am on a minimum of 10 meds. Everyplaced i tried to get help turned me down. Its so bad that as i was calling around trying to get medical coverage, that i had a phone sales rep for an insurance company Hang up on me when i was listing my preexisting conditions. I worked most of my adult life. Ive paid my way. But cant get any help . So thanks to that idiot in the wh. And the vindictive morons in the congress and senate. Im going to end up losing my home on top of already losung my health. Well done people! So much for going to washington to further your own welfare but not the welfare of the people who chose you to represent and protect them.
Please vote NO on republican health care bill. How could you vote any other way when you don't even know what's in it. Also, would it not be beneficial to consult with other countries that do provide good healthcare for their citizens to learn from what they have done?
Has anyone in the Senate read the bill you are voting on?
