July 17: Healthcare Bill on Hold

by Countable | 7.17.17

MONDAY, JULY 17

News never takes a weekend.

Will the Senate Republican bill to repeal and replace Obamacare ever get a vote? Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) shelved a planned vote this week after it emerged that John McCain (R-AZ) would be out, recovering from surgery. (Thus leaving the GOP short of the 50 votes needed to advance the bill.) Also delayed: the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score of the bill. It was hoped the CBO would release their score of the updated bill on Monday, but now it’s not expected until Tuesday at the earliest.

After a leisurely Saturday watching and playing golf, President Trump on Sunday released a torrent of tweets defending his son, bashing the media and attacking Hillary Clinton. "Hillary Clinton can illegally get the questions to the Debate & delete 33,000 emails but my son Don is being scorned by the Fake News media?" That tweet was followed forty minutes later by: “With all of its phony unnamed sources & highly slanted & even fraudulent reporting, #Fake News is DISTORTING DEMOCRACY in our country.”

The President: The White House

  • After a weekend in New Jersey at the Bedminster Trump National Golf Club, the President is back in D.C. He’ll continue to wheel and deal with GOP senators as he tries to get the votes needed to pass the Republican healthcare bill. Trump will lunch with VP Mike Pence, then meet later in the day with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. And maybe try out some unique American-made products (see below).

The House of Representatives: IN SESSION

  • Voting on bills renaming a VA facility in Pennsylvania and allowing the District of Columbia to enter into transit agreements with Virginia.

The Senate: IN SESSION

What to Watch

  • For the next three weeks, the White House will be organizing the President’s schedule around a number of themes: "Made In America," “American Heroes” and “American Dreams.” Monday’s the start of “Made In America.” Today, the White House will host a “product showcase” that highlights American-made products from each of the 50 states.

Hope your Monday goes as well as it can, CountaDudes, Dudettes, and Dudexs.

"America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand." --Harry Truman

This bill is a train wreck and morally bankrupt. It should NEVER come for a vote. Do what's right and fix the faults in the ACA. Trumpcare will KILL people and leave millions more vulnerable. That is not leadership.

I have asked you several times now to reject the healthcare bill. Unfortunately you have remained silent on the subject, obviously cowering in fear. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Believe me I know what it is like to be in that position. The thing is, if you decide to ignore your conscience, and do the wrong thing for the wrong reasons, you will most certainly pay a much heavier price than if you would stand up for the actual people who voted for you rather than caving in to the insurance companies and your misguided, corrupt and morally bankrupt party. I have to believe that you are better than that, at least I am praying that you are!

I am fine with any senator voting "yes" on the Health Care Bill under one condition. The senator needs to publicly confirm that this health care is so good that it will be the ONLY health care that he or she will personally use. IF one cannot make that claim, than the vote must be NO!

How can we set aside this week MADE IN AMERICA. Only if wages weren't so high and regulations so unfair to coorporate agendas, Don't forget safe working conditions that are real job killers. If we only had the same practice that exst in Vietnam, Bangladesh, China, and other areas where we currently produce many products. (ALL KIDDING ASIDE.) The motto Made in America, like Right to Work is only a great sounding disquise that in reality squashes what most regular everyday americans want an need. That is good paying jobs with safe working conditions. Free Enterprise isn't supposed be at the expense of safety and liveable wages. Our stock market is a perfect example of income redistribution to the rich. We need to open our eyes and realize that in order to reverse this trend of leaving the working poor and many in our middle class without affordable healthcare this dire situation we find ourselves in is only going to spiral downward.

I am literally praying that the bill tanks!! At least JOHN MCCAIN is getting health care assistance. If he had even a shred of decency he would vote against this ugly Republican bill......maybe post combat, he has lost his ability to push back?

One final thought. What do you think might happen to the almighty stock market and the economy if the workers who support that system can't afford healthcare, become sicker, die sooner. Productivity will drop, profits will decline. Etc, etc, etc. We are the very foundation of the economy and if Washington keeps passing laws chipping away at its foundation moving all the weight to the top of The structure, it won't be long until it collapses of its own weight. 2008 was only a preview of what is to come unless you change course. Stop trying to erase President Obama and work on the more pressing matters like keeping the banks from gambling our money in the stock market, or putting a stop to the derivatives market that proved so fatal in 2008. Or I don't know, how about dealing with climate change so Florida doesn't succumb to the ever rising sea level. Scientists have been warning us for decades about this and we just twirl our thumbs, put our head in the sand, anything to not disturb the status quo. The truth is America became the Nation it is by having the courage to rise above its challenges and face them head on. Not any more though. Somewhere along the way we became wimpy cowards picking political fights rather than facing our challenges. We had a courageous President, President Ob as ma, who wasn't afraid to face these issues but all you did was try to knock him down. You couldn't do that so you moved on to weaker opponents like Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton. You guys have been trying to discredit the Clintons for nearly 30 years. Even with the full force of the Federal Government behind you, you could never make anything stick. With the exception of Bills junk to Lewenski's blue dress. Did you ever ask yourself why? Because they are inherently good people who devoted their lives to public service. And stood strong against wave after wave of needless investigations and personal attacks. You managed to make 1/2 of America hate them for no good reason. Lies are like toothpaste, once their out, there's no putting them back in the tube. Our sitting President is on the verge of having all of his lies finally catch up to him, and if you stick by him, you're going to be circling the drain right along with him. Search your heart, you know it's true. And Karma is really a thing!

Dear Senators Merkley & Wyden- THANK YOU for your outspoken & clear stand on this disastrous replacement of ACA. It is a tragedy that there are people who feel that any industry in the US should be about profit & greed. I am a nurse & my husband a physician. We have personally witnessed many people struggle to choose between health care & their home/food/ADLs. The proposed bill would be regressive & potentially kill thousands. Please continue to stand for Americans that don't have the ability to sway Republicans with money but should count. Healthcare is a necessity to a full & healthful life. Please continue to fight for equitable healthcare policies. Thank you again for your true stand!

You guys know what the right thing to do on the healthcare bill. Even though there's no hope for Renacci, who is too clueless to understand, Sen. Portman, please do the right thing and vote for what will truly help Ohioans which means vote NO on the AHCA. Sen. Brown, thanks for all you do and also thanks for responding to the thoughts of your constituents!!

This bill is a complete non-starter. It amounts to a tax grab for the wealthy at the expense of those who are less fortunate. I oppose this with every fiber of my being. Health care is a human right. We need a form of single payer like all other civilized countries in the world have. Insurance companies and big Pharma have screwed us long enough.

How can you live your life knowing that if you vote yes on this health care bill people will suffer and die! I wish and pray and beg that there will be some sort of miracle for everyone out there that needs help. A lot of people aren't rich and lucky like you. They can barely make ends meet and have to worry about how they will pay for any health expenses too.

Postponing The vote on Trumpcare? They will keep postponing the vote until they have time to put more money into the representatives pockets so they can pass this atrocious death bill. The only reason Obama care is failing is that Congress will not fund the associated government funding. Trump would rather give big tax breaks to billionaires than see that Americans can go to see a doctor. TRUMPCARE = NO REELECTION FOR ANYBODY SUPPORTING TRUMPCARE!!!!

(I hope) you picked the wrong republican to hang your hat on...( McCain is one of the few that puts country over party). You can't spend enough of our money trying to bribe states, McConnell, to get representatives to support this disaster!

As soon as the Congress and the Senate agrees to the same program you are advocating for the rest of us I'll start listening. Until then if it's not good enough for you and your families, I'm against it. Shameful you all are.

I do not like the healthcare act the way it is written. I especially dislike the penalties laid on people with pre-existing conditions. It seems to me everyone is in a rush to pass this. Please take your time and go through the bill. This rush job the congress is doing will only make more problems than it solves.

I have been watching the news unfold about the latest Russian story involving Donald Trump Jr, Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort. Although not surprised by the response from the President and his team of lawyers, I have two questions for all Republican members of both houses of Congress: Why is it so hard to answer the question regarding the impropriety and lack of moral judgement demonstrated by the group in accepting and attending a meeting with a foreign government for political gain? I understand the oath of office everyone of you took to SUPPORT AND DEFEND the Constitution and citizens of the United States. Russia is a foreign power and most assuredly not a friend of the US. This should be a no-brainer yet no one will even answer the question as to whether this meeting should have been agreed to and held. If this your idea of supporting and defending the Constitution, maybe you all need to look up the meaning of the words. My second question is in regards to the current fight in DC involving the disaster known as the Better Care Reconciliation Act. I do not want to go into the lack of merits in the tax break bill floating around as the answer to all Health Care issues in this country. That would just be a waste of my time. I would like to know, however, when it became acceptable to worry more about keeping your jobs (upcoming elections) than actually helping the American people you have been elected to SERVE. If I hear one more reference to "re-election campaigns" and "promises made" to a minority of citizens who put you each in the job you currently hold, I think my head will explode. You may have been elected to represent your districts, but your responsibility is to the overall well-being of the United States. If anyone in private business spent as much time trying to keep their jobs instead of doing their jobs, they would have been fired months ago. I realize I will never get answers to these questions (haven't gotten any response from my own representatives ). I just feel the need to ask. Maybe if enough people start looking at these issues through different lenses we can save this great experiment we call home.
