July 13: Revised Healthcare Bill Coming Today

by Countable | 7.13.17

THURSDAY, JULY 13

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) plans to release an adjusted healthcare bill that would repeal and replace Obamacare. Two weeks ago, the Kentucky senator pulled the initial bill when it was clear he wouldn’t have enough GOP votes to pass it. Version 2.0 is expected to include an amendment proposed by Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Mike Lee (R-UT) that would allow health insurance companies to offer plans that don’t include the ACA’s essential health benefits, so long as they offer at least one plan that includes them. It’s also rumored to include $45 billion to help states battle the opioid epidemic.

The White House is trying to shift to the offense about Donald Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised him dirt on Hillary Clinton. During an off-camera briefing yesterday, Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders touted the DNC and Clinton’s ties to foreign governments, including Russia and Ukraine.

The President: Paris

  • The President and First Lady are being wined and dined in the French capital ahead of Bastille Day tomorrow. Tonight, French President Emmanuel Macron will treat the Trumps, and their delegation, to a fancy dinner in Le Jules Verne restaurant, located on the second level of the Eiffel Tower.

The House of Representatives: IN SESSION

The Senate: IN SESSION

What to Watch

  • The Christian Broadcasting Network is set to air an interview with Trump later today. In it, the President says there are "many reasons" Putin would prefer Hillary were elected over him, because “if Hillary had won, our military would be decimated. Our energy would be much more expensive. That’s what Putin doesn’t like about me. And that’s why I say why would he want me?”

  • Parents and kids from across the country are in D.C.’s Upper Senate Park, rallying in support of climate action. Knowing how antsy youngsters can get, instead of a sit in, they’re holding a "Play-In" with kid-friendly activities.

Keep fighting the good fight, CountaCompanions.

I'm a retired nurse and I am tired of seeing these pretenses of providing health care for our citizens put up for a vote. If any of the Republican plans are enacted, it will put our current health care system in total chaos, and people will die!!!!! Oh, but that's what our greedy GOP wants...and more money in their pockets! So when you rid our country of all of the old, the sick, and the supposed middle class...cause they ARE the poor these days....who will be left to provide the money for tax breaks for the one per cent! I am so disgusted by what the current crooked GOP has done to our once great country!!!! About the only thing I have left is my right to vote! Oh....wait.....the GOP is trying to take that from me too!!!

Carole Henderson, 709 Ocean Ave. Avon by the Sea, Monmouth County, NJ. This new Trump care bill is not ready to be voted on. Why not just correct the things that need to be corrected in the ACA? ACA covers more people who need insurance coverage. Other countries across the world offer single payer healthcare. Don't understand how this can be so difficult for the USA.

This is disgusting, get out of party lines and do what's right. Vote no. Your job is to represent our life, not to kill us off

NO! This bill is STILL insufficient. Having a healthcare plan that doesn't give ample coverage is tantamount to having no plan at all. This is not about protecting people. This is about destroying Obama's legacy and returning money to the rich.

I don't know how many ways and times I can say this. If you destroy the gains we have made in affordable healthcare, you do so at your political peril.

I do not approve of the new health care bill ! It's no better then the first too many loop holes lack of benefits for preexisting conditions ,mental health care for all including children! Also the opioid crisis and drug counseling is not addressed ! Until it's better then Obama Care then not acceptable. Time to get two parties together to make it better time again to kill this bill!

The Trumpcare bill created by Senator McConnell and his male colleagues is devastating to millions of Americans. It cuts Medicaid by millions and allows insurance companies to offer insurance that doesn't actually cover illness, ER, pre-existing conditions and basic healthcare issues. This will create an untenable pool of older Americans and Americans with chronic illness who will not be able to get healthcare or be bankrupted by it. This is not a plan for Americans. It's a plan for a small group of wealthy GOP men. Please reach across the aisle to moderate GOP members and fix the existing ACA or create a single payer system which would be more fiscally responsible, widely supported and would care for all Americans.

Healthcare is a service provided as well as a human right. Being pro-life only means having the resources to stay alive which includes healthcare. No cuts to Medicaid or planned Parenthood. The people in government work for we the people, not the other way around.

No, no, and 1,000x NO! If they were unable to come up with a competitive alternative for Obamacare, then it's unthinkable that anything they come up with at the lightning speeds they've employed, will be even worth looking at!

From yet another nurse....you can't seem to improve it, so LEAVE IT ALONE. Millions will be without healthcare and the slashing of Medicaid is horrific. Everyone, REMEMBER THIS IN 2018!

Cruz's revisions to Trumpcare 2.0 do not make this bill better. It doesn't improve health care access if the affordability is related to bare-bones benefits. It also doesn't prevent 22 million plus from losing health care that has adequate essential benefits. Vote no senators!

McConnell's so-called health-care proposal at the very least is discriminatory, greedy, inhumane, and disgusting. It also will be a death sentence for millions of Americans. McConnell obviously is trying to turn this nation into a third-world nation. Please vote against this travesty.

I fail to understand why the extreme right and/or left are being allowed to dictate such important legislation. It seems to me that pandering to a minority opinion while ignoring the more centered majority of American citizens concerns is not democracy. Please vote no on this bill as it currently is. Please work together as congress is supposed to or do most of us a favor and resign.

Do NOT support the new healthcare overhaul. It would kill all chances for average Americans to afford healthcare. Instead of repealing and replacing the ACA, craft supplemental bills to beef up the holes in the bill, the gaps in coverage, and support for health insurance companies to keep providing coverage; do not give huge tax breaks to the wealthy in place of actual coverage for middle America and the poorest amongst us.

So the ACA's basic health benefits would not need to be covered by any plan except 1, which would logically be the most expensive plan. Maternity coverage is on that list... for God's sake, would the GOP stop trying to punish women for both being women and bearing children? Now the GOP is not only trying to reduce immigration, but also punish women for having babies. Explain to me again how an aging population will affect our economy?
