July 12: FBI Director Nominee Gets Hearing

by Countable | 7.12.17

WEDNESDAY, JULY 12th

Good morning, CountaBuddies!

A few lucky Senators get to take a break from arguing about the GOP health-care bill. Today sees the Judiciary Committee’s confirmation hearing of Christopher Wray, President Trump’s nominee to head the FBI. Wray would replace fired FBI director James Comey, who you may remember from such comments as "Lordy, I hope there are tapes." Wray will likely field a question or two about a certain Eastern European country that rhymes with “Prussia.” Watch live online.

Google, Twitter, Netflix and other tech companies and advocacy groups are participating in the Day of Action to Save Net Neutrality. Events across the country – and internet – are being held in response to the FCC’s efforts to revise net neutrality rules. These include online protests, push notifications for users to send comments to the FCC and Congress and spreadable gifs and memes.

The President: The White House & The Eiffel Tower

  • Tonight, President Trump and First Lady Melania depart Washington, D.C. for Paris, France. French President Emmanuel Macron invited Trump to join him for Bastille Day.

The Senate: IN SESSION

What to Watch

Keep sailing that ship of state, CountaCaptains…

Our Senators act like Russian connections are of no importance and then talk of building trust and confidence in our government. This is another person with Russian connections and watching our senate at work is like they have been in some hermetically sealed capsule and the Russian attack on our democracy is not of consequence. Shame on all of them. Watching our government fail us is heart breaking.

Stop playing around with American's lives . Your about to nominate another person with Russian ties . We are sick of what's happening in our country . You are destroying the country you represent . People are really getting fed up with their lives being treated as if we are nothing . We made America with hard work . We are not going to watch you tear it down .

Wray should not be FBI director. Weak answers regarding Russian interference. Looks like another Trump patsy.

Deny this nomination. Not a good choice during this period of uncertainty involving Russian collusion. Don't play into Trump's hand.

At this point with all the madness going on at WH- don't approval any appointments until we clear up all this Russia madness. Please don't give evidence as a reason so this administration has shown with Don Jr they are very willing to hide their encounters

First of all, while the president is under FBI investigation he should not be allowed to appoint a new director. Second, Mr Wray has business ties to Russian gas & oil businesses which should be an absolute deal breaker. Surely there is a qualified candidate without connections to Russia. Just say NO.

I feel that until all possibly questionable actions from the administration has been sorted out, that no more nominations be reviewed. It will be impossible for the American people to have faith in any White House appointed officials with out putting things to rest with clear and precise answers. Previous appointments appear to have a great possibility of personal gain associated with the position they hold.

Quit playing games and wasting precious time! The whole Russia thing stinks! Democrats are deflecting, distracting, and dismantling our democracy!! Knock it off, get to work and do YOUR job! Support our President respectfully and responsibly! Obstruction and distractions are just making voters more and more aware that Dems have something to hide! If you really cared about America and liberty, you would prosecute your own!

There should be no more appointments of Trump nominees until this investigation is over, ESPECIALLY if it's already known they have any ties to Russia. This is supposed to be a nonpartisan role.

Donald Trump should not be allowed to pick any persons for positions that will be investigating him. It's a total conflict of interest!
