Last summer, at the height of the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump Jr. received an email from a powerful Russian national with an offer:
“...to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father."
The message continued,
“This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”
Trump Jr.'s response included this:
“If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer.”
The subsequent meeting and the email trail were first reported by the New York Times, after which Trump Jr. released the messages via Twitter.
