Happy Independence Day, CountaFamily!
The ideas upon which this country is built are aspirational, as in we aspire to them. Freedom is not a destination, it’s a process, which we engage in together every day. Some days we do a better job than others, but we keep trying, together.
May more people be truly free, to live and work and love, in health and happiness, through our collective effort.
If you want to see the spectacular D.C. fireworks, you can livestream it with PBS right here.
If you want to read perhaps the greatest and most devastating July 4th speech ever given, you can read it in its entirety here.
Be free, CountaPatriots, but be safe! Happy 4th!

I fear our independence is melting away. Mr.Trump must be impeached. The man continues to prove his inadequacy with his daily rants on twitter, he and his administration are under investigation for obstruction of justice and collusion with Russia to undermine our democracy. He obviously has a multitude of conflicts of interest. He has hired his own family to sit on his cabinet, and he has spent 1/5 of his time as president golfing. Nor to mention he has been sharing state secrets with foreign powers, angering our allies, and seems to have no notion of what is going on in the world. The United States can no longer be relied upon as a world leader, a symbol of freedom, or a beacon of democracy. We are a joker's oligarchy.
241 years ago a collective group of people declared their independence from a tyrannical government. They wanted a say where their tax money went. They wanted to practice religion without government prosecution. They wanted a society where an elected official had a day job but was in touch with his community. To create law and policy based on the interest of his fellow brethren. To live as one nation and respect for his fellow countryman. TO BE A FREE MAN! Where did it all go wrong? Happy birthday 'merica!
Happy Independence Day! We the People must put aside our differences so that We the People don't lose our freedoms. I do not hate Republicans or Conservatives. Let's start with Don't call me a Libturd and I won't call you a Rethug. I am a full time hardworking American citizen descending from a family of immigrants. This country gave them a chance; gave their hardworking children good jobs with livable wages, education clean living and environmental standards, a way for their grandchildren (my generation) to be the first ones to go to college, and it's now taking care of them in their old age. That's what America is about... everyone having a chance to a better life free from fear of our fellow men and taking care of those who can't. We must continue to open our hearts and support the tired the poor the retched refuse as the Statue of Liberty says. That's what it means to be American whether you are wealthy or not, no matter what you are. We must open our eyes to really see each other, learn to love each other through our differences, and despite being told otherwise... bc: United We Stand, Divided We Fall. I don't want our children to fall. I want them to fly like the American Eagle!
To all Americans, its Independence Day, take a moment between activities to reflect on what that means.
On this July 4th, I pray for our country, that people of all backgrounds will come together, listen to one another, begin to recognize what is happening to the soul of our country, and then decide to do something about it. We the People, must wrestle with the powers that be and win back our country from the greedy corporate interests who are strangling our government's power to provide a safe place for all of its people to have an equal chance to thrive. If you do business in America, your bottom line is not worth more than our our lives, our liberty, or our pursuit of happiness. You will see, because the voices of everyday Americans will not be ignored, we will not turn a blind eye to the damage you are doing, we will fight for our country, our constitution, and our rights. We the People must make a monumental effort to turn the tide in 2018, 2020, and every election henceforth so that our children may know that America's greatness is not measured by its wealth, degree of religious purity, or the relative strength of its military, but by its democracy, cultural diversity, freedom, unity, equality, and, most importantly, its humanity.
We need to educate the people ( again ) on what are the core freedoms this country stands for. Citizens don't know which country we fought for our independence from. NPR tweets the whole Declaration of Independence and people think it is a liberal attack on President Trump. We have serious cracks in our democratic foundations, and need to repair them before the system collapses.
I wanted to add something about Independence Day! I hear this from Paul Harvey in 1982 on Armed Forces Radio when I was stationed in Germany! The men that signed our Declaration of Independence all pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor in signing tat document. Half of those men were actually Ordained Christian Ministers! Fully two thirds of them taught bible study on a regular basis! I did my research as should everyone else. Yes! Many were wealthy land owners both in the norther as well as southern colonies! The British burned their lands and destroyed their homes and businesses and hunted them down. Some hanged! Many died penniless! Go ahead and look it up. What happened to the signers! Google it if you please. You all will be surprised! As a Veteran and hard working American I am over 30% disabled from my military service and as I am approaching the age of sixty I do construction and truck driving work! I get up in the morning and I need a good hour or better before o can leave for work to get my body going! Now to all of you! Get out and be somebody and quit crying! The government owes you nothing but a safe country in which to live and a whole lot of opportunity! It's what you make of it for yourselves! God Bless!

One of the grievances against King George III in the Declaration of Independence bears remembering,,,"He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither..."
Ready to unite for we the people and a better country and world.
