What’s the story? Environmental Protection Agency Head Scott Pruitt has managed to undo, delay or block more than 30 environmental rules in his four months in charge, the largest regulatory rollback in the agency’s 47-year history, reports the New York Times.
Why does it matter? Critics argue that Pruitt is privileging the views of industry over environmentalists and career agency staffers to the detriment of the public, instead primarily turning to industry lobbyists, his own political appointees and other Republican political allies.
Pruitt, according to the Times, "sees himself as a champion of states’ rights, pressing to diminish the intrusive authority of an overbearing federal agency." He says that he wants to focus on a “back to basics” agenda- cleaning up existing pollution rather than preventing possible future environmental issues and getting in the way of economic growth in the process.
What can you do? Ask yourself these questions and then share your answers with your representatives and the White House: Is the EPA on the right track with their push to eliminate many environmental regulations? Are they getting the right input to pursue policy decisions? Are Pruitt’s priorities for the Agency reflective of your priorities?

As. Someone who was alive back before the EPA, I fully remember how nasty the air & water was back then - a RIVER catching fire FIVE TIMES????!!!! So yeah, let's roll back those regulations that are hampering business (yet say nothing about obscene CEO pay). Warren Harding thanks Trump for raising his worse president rating.
It is more effective for the Federal Government to spearhead clean air and water for the Nation. The clean air and water policies in Ohio effect the air and water in PA and KY. etc Secretary Pruitt is wrong to ignore the specialists in Environmental issues and defer to the fossil fuel industrialists for guidance.
I don't believe that the EPA is on the right track.Mr. Pruitt is undoing decades of progress in cleaning up our environment he may be responsible for people dying and most likely will add to the decline of states' ability to regulate local environmental protections. Without the might of the EPA and having standardized federal regulations states will be forced to come up with money that they don't have to fight the big corporations that will again be free to rape and pillage Mother Earth. Pruitt is crazy if he thinks he's doing the states a favor! He is doing a huge disservice to all Americans, well except those that will be making bigger salaries and bonuses for loosening the rules so they can make bigger profits. Contrary to his belief we need the federal government to keep this country on track to continue to clean up our environment and work towards a better future for our descendants and Mother Earth. The EPA should be run by someone who gives a damn for something other than big oil, big money and the "hoax" of climate change. This man is a disgrace to our country and proves to the world that those who run our country are all about GREED!
EPA's Pruitt' moves to rollback over 30 environmental regulations is a crime, a raping of America. His repeal to pollution in waterways, delaying rules to stop leaking of methane and greenhouse gases and reversal of a ban to stop the use of pesticides is a crime of murder to the people, children, of America, the world, the planet Earth. He is doing this while giving money and power to major corporations and lobbying groups. This is truly murder and he MUST be STOPPED!!! Thank you.
Not a surprise. When you put a person in charge who has his history of battling the EPA it's not surprising that he has done everything possible to destroy the EPA. He doesn't believe in global warming (nor apparently science). I just hope his errors can be reversed when he is out of office in the next few years. Another brilliant appointment by his "highness." If we could just pull up a big bus when trump is impeached and load the lot of them in at the same time I would be happy.
I hear very little from Washington these days that isn't deplorable and yet, apparently. our forefathers did not give us an effective way to get rid of a bad President.
This is deplorable.
CEO's are worried that they'll only be able to make millions a year instead of tens of millions because of pesky regulations that keep air, water and land clean and Americans safer. Somehow, I'm not feeling very sympathetic to their plight. I wish I had to settle for just millions every year. These regulations were enacted because the states (hugely Republican) turned their backs on citizens in favor of lobbyist dollars from industry. The people of this Country pay taxes and pay for the right to have clean air, water, etc. They do not pay so politicians can line their pockets while ruling in favor of big business.
Rolling back protections for safety and the environment? Seriously? This is seriously deplorable! We need protections! People need clean air and water!!
Scott Pruitt should not be leading the EPA. Everything he has done so far has been to roll back environmental protections. I know Vermonters want to see better stewardship of the environment. Please keep fighting.
As usual the Reps are going backwards. At this rate our children's lifespan will be fifty-five years. And, we can forget about species endangered by global warming; including flora, reef builders and other fauna. What a miserable excuse for a government that only cares about their PACs bottom line. A special that you to those who elected them in to office.
I want to know that our country's air, water. and natural resources are not only protected but championed on behalf of its citizens and not guided by corporations seeking only to increase profits. It is obviously that Scott Pruit is and has always been the champion of companies who want to do damage to our citizens by polluting the country. Protection of our citizens cannot be driven by profits or politics. I expect you to keep me and others safe from harm and to oppose the undoing of regulations that do just that. We have only one earth. We don't get a do over and neither do those who suffer the effects of that undoing
This administration is all about rolling back regulations that are in the way of them making money, at the expense of each of us. We want clean air and water. Saying it should be regulated at state level is absurd. Air and water cross state lines.
Please continue to oppose and try to keep Mr. Pruitt from destroying any environmental progress and regulations that have occurred in the past 40+ years. He does not speak for me or future generations. Like the rest of the trump appointees, he should be ashamed of how his actions betray average Americans.
Bottom line - Conservatives are morally and ethically corrupt...
I may be wrong, but the stranglehold on environmental regulations felt like overkill. Take Chlorpyrifos for example. Even the Columbia study couldn't empirically prove the high exposure was the cause of low birth weight and other associated risks. Yet, the pesticide was banned. I'm 1000% for safe use of chemicals, just saying these rollbacks probably have more to do with why they were (or rather not) needed in the first place. I also wish people on these threads weren't so flipping dramatic "this planet is doomed" oh my goodness! As for engaging with career department personnel to make informed decisions, all new department heads will listen to outside sources they trust Give it time - Pruitt is effecting change even if you don't like how he's doing it - or why.
Hope they enjoy the endless growth of their bankroll while they burn and die with the rest of the world
He's a criminal just like his boss - lock 'em all up.
Shame on you who voted for republicans they will destroy you and generations to come . Vote out the republicans in 2018 locally and nationally before it's to late.
Let's see, polluted water, polluted air, unrestricted use of pesticides, denial of climate change and flooding coastlines...tell me how this is improving our economy and our lives....
