The Daily Countable: Take Action Today!

FRIDAY, JUNE 30, 2017

Happy Friday, CountaPatriots!

For Congress it’s already the July 4th weekend. They started decamping to home districts and holiday destinations yesterday afternoon, so all congressional news will come from outside Washington for the next 10 days.

If any Member of Congress appears in an Independence Day parade expect political fireworks to go with the sparklers.

The President: IN WASHINGTON

  • This morning President Trump is speaking with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey by phone.

  • In the late morning the president will issue a joint statement in the Rose Garden with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

  • This afternoon the president and First Lady will head to their resort in New Jersey for the holiday weekend.

The House of Representatives: OUT OF SESSION

  • The House has begun their July 4th recess.

The Senate: OUT OF SESSION

  • The Senate has begun their July 4th recess.

What to Watch

  • Joint statements from President Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will air at 11:15 AM EDT. Watch it here.

Have fun and be safe, CountaFam! Sometimes fireworks end up being more than we bargained for.

"He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from opposition; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach himself." —Thomas Paine

Please oppose current BCRA bill and tell your GOP peers to work in a bipartisan manner to reform the ACA. The ACA was never a disaster. It allowed more people to access health care. It has problems that need to be fixed, but the ACA did help millions of people access health care.. Everyone I know that has the ACA is thankful for having access to health care. The problems lately have worsened because the insurance companies cannot operate with market uncertainty that has been created by this administration. However, the ACA set limits on how much seniors could get charged, ensued that insurance companies could not set annual or life time caps on policies, protected consumers with pre-existing conditions, and it protected essential benefits. The BCRA doesn't do any of that, but does give huge tax cuts to the 400 wealthiest Americans while the subsidies for all others would diminish. The BCRA adversely targets women by removing maternity care as an essential benefit and strips funding for family planning. The GOP argues the BCRA increases choice. No one will care about.choice if your choice is a bare bones health policy or unaffordable insurance. The Medicaid population will be adversely affected with children and seniors unable to receive care. That is unacceptable! Please oppose and encourage your GOP peers to start listening and working with you and fellow Democratic peers. Tell them not to just repeal!

Senate and congress when are you going to work together and call the president out for his disturbing behavior? His twitter rants are non presidential and bullying! What is it going to take for someone to stand up and lead? So tired of everyone's complicit behavior! Pulling America apart rather than improving it!
