"As President Trump has said, in his words, it is not enough to merely have an American presence in space—we must have American dominance in space. And so we will," Pence said. "Space is, in his words, a war-fighting domain just like land and air and sea."
Congress would have to approve the creation of a new military branch.
Do you think the U.S. should establish a Space Force within the military? Should the Pentagon consider commercial space options instead? Does America need a military presence in space? Hit the Take Action button and tell your Reps.

NO!!! We have the air force for that already!!! Defense spending is already ridiculous! We do NOT need yet another redundant government agency! Lets spend the money on affordable housing, or feeding the starving children, or anything that is NOT just another ‘big gun’ for Trump to wave i our faces.
.... seriously? Unless clone troopers, light sabers and armored battle stations the size of small moons are involved, the answer is a resounding NO. The USAF and NASA already perform the duties that these prolific time and tax money wasters want to assign to an entirely new military branch. This is just a colossally stupid idea, I can’t quite believe we are seriously considering this whackadoodle bullshit.
We are nowhere near needing protection in space, for Pete's sake we've only been to the moon, what is there to protect? And why would wars over the earth be fought in space? On top of all this we're already spending an insane amount on being the world's police, we don't need this financial burden.
How can we have a space force when the current administration doesn’t respect science or education? We don’t need a space force. Especially not when we have people in the US who don’t believe in science, vilify anyone who wants to get an education, and think God will solve all of our problems. Take that funding and put it in healthcare, education and improving our infrastructure.
Yes we do. Ever since Sputnik in 1957 the importance of space, and dominating it has been critical. Missilery has gotten far more powerful in the ensuing decades and preventing an attack from space and exploring it go hand in hand. Protecting the Homeland no price for that is too high.
