June 2: Paris Agreement Blowback and More Legislation Coming

by Countable | 6.2.17

The Daily Countable: Take Action Today!

THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 2017

Good morning, CountaWarriors!

Many of you may still be reeling from the president’s official announcement to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. Many of you may be jubilant, though suffering the effects of your celebration this morning. Regardless, today is a new day and other things are on the docket.

Last night administration lawyers submitted filings asking the Supreme Court to hear the travel ban case and lift injunctions against it temporarily. This afternoon the president is scheduled to sign legislation. It never ends, politics.

We all had a night to cry or cheer. Now let’s get back to work. We’ve got this.

The President: IN WASHINGTON

  • At 2 PM EDT President Trump will meet with Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC). I’d like to be a fly on the wall for that one, wouldn’t you?

  • At 2:45 PM EDT President Trump will sign a variety of bills. The official White House website does not suggest the signings will be televised. We’ll keep you posted.

The House of Representatives: OUT

  • Town halls, anyone?

The Senate: OUT

  • If you went to a town hall this week that deserves wider media coverage, let us know. Send us an email, a tweet, or leave a comment here.

What to Watch

  • At 1:30 PM the White House is hosting a press briefing with Sean Spicer and EPA Head Scott Pruitt. Given yesterday’s news about the Paris Agreement, expect fireworks. Watch it all here.

Keep going, CountaFriends! We’ll be right there with you.

"I always tell my kids if you lay down, people will step over you. But if you keep scrambling, you keep going, someone will always, always, give you a hand. Always. But you gotta keep dancing, you gotta keep your feet moving." — Morgan Freeman

Though I am a little disappointed in trump actions, I am not at all surprised. After reading several books on trump and his behavior, prior to, and after, his run for the presidency this is my view. He can be very vindictive and "WILL" carry a grudge for years. His "Brand" or the way he is viewed (ego) is important to "himself". Philosophically speaking, he looks at people two ways, winners or losers. He aligns himself with people that he feels are winners, even if they are unscrupulous and self-serving. He has been known to be thin skinned, have a very short attention span, will not accept defeat, will not take responsibility for errors that he has made, will always blame someone else for his errors in judgment, miss information or lies. Is it any wonder why he would act the way he does while in office. He carries a personal vendetta against President Barack Obama and will make a point to overturn every bill that President Obama has signed. It appears that we have a 17-year-old bully with a Twitter account instead of a 70-year-old President of the United States of America...

The United States should be a leader in dealing with climate change. Trump's withdrawal only furthers anti-American sentiment and contributes to global destabilization.

This is what happens when you have a president who is an amoral egotist with an IQ of 10 who thinks he's brilliant. Let's hope the cities, states, corporations and thoughtful citizens of this nation continue to work towards clean energy. Trump is doing a great job at taking this country to its lowest common denominator.

I encourage you to stand up for the facts. Don't sit back and protect the falsehood. Paris Accord is important. We always need to up keep policies with time. President trump is not thinking, he just want to oppose everything that Obama did. It's simple that president made false allegation about President birth certificate and etc. he always tweeted against Obama and now he does those things him self. Don't follow trump and spoil the Republican party name. I urge you to voice this.

Extremely Irresponsible! The US should be a leader in Climate issues around the world. The reasons our President gave for not joining the Paris agreement are disingenuous at best.

If the federal government won't join the Paris Agreement then our local areas need to join the Paris Agreement. I'm calling on my representatives to please work hard to get Florida in the Paris Agreement (like New York, California, and cities like Orlando and St. Petersburg). If Florida is too much to ask for, let's at least get Hillsborough County or Tampa on board with meeting the emissions reducing targets. Please represent us for the future. Let's make Tampa and Florida a green technology haven and marketplace and boost job growth as a result, all the while caring for the Earth.

Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement is absurd. What can each citizen do to make his action null and void?

I ask all of my representatives to stand against this move to remove American from the Paris Agreement. In SC alone solar is becoming big money and brings jobs. We need to be pushing the envelope to help create a better planet for all. Please don't reply to this message if all you are going to do is defend Trump's completely false narrative in his remarks as to why he would do such a foolish thing! He is killing America and if you stand with him so are you. As for jobs- coal will never come back help grow green jobs to give coal workers the life the seek without killing their lungs and our planet

I am deeply disturbed and embarrassed by our President's withdrawal from the hard fought Paris agreement. There will be no jobs on a dead planet. Please do everything in your power to reverse this and other out of touch deregulations which are destructive to America and planet. I would like to get a good nights sleep again.

Once again he has made a mockery of this country. He says the US is a "laughingstock" for being part of the Paris agreement. HE is what makes this country a laughingstock. He only wants to undo everything that happened on Obama's watch. He is taking everything from that admin as if it was an affront to him. Given his racist and bigoted nature it is logical to assume that he is outraged that a black man was President and wants to grind him and his admin into dust; to obliterate the very existence of a black president. If Obama and Congress had enacted "be kind to animals" Trump would be advocating the torture of animals. Low minded people are not leaders. They want to reduce everything to the lowest common denominator instead of pushing upward for the better.

My husband and I went to a town meeting with Rep. Rothfus of Pa., who naturally didn't show up. This is so exasperating for us. We want to ask him so many questions about what he is doing, but he is our ghost representative. We are taking his absence under consideration and will not be voting for a ghost. We also met two individuals who will be running against him. They showed up!

So glad we are out of that disastrous Paris Climate Change agreement. A bad deal for the US any way you look at it. Way to go President Trump!! Love that you put America first. And agreed with the 75% of the worlds scientists that are shouting climate change is a hoax.

Well Mr Trump, if they weren't laughing before, the world is now. Those millions of green innovation jobs, those alternative green products will move to China and India. France's President asked that our green innovators come to his country to do their work. Mr Trumps poor judgement is astounding to the point of embarrassment. Get involved. Get informed. Vote.

I indict Trump on attempted murder of our children and future generations as well as the planet and conclude this is dereliction of duty for pulling out of the Paris Accord. This is just 45s pathetic attempt to distract from the TrumpRussia investigation, as well as for his own personal $ benefit. Guess what, I multitask well! And I call on all of my reps and senators as well as governor and mayor to defy Trump and keep my town and my state IN the Paris Climate Accord and to charge this pathetic excuse of a president at once and begin impeachment as well as criminal proceedings.
