The Daily Countable: Take Action Today!

MONDAY, MAY 29, 2017

Memorial Day makes for a quiet Washington, which is appropriate. We honor all the men and women who have died in military service to this country. They were fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, daughters and sons, friends and loved ones, and they are missed.

The President: IN WASHINGTON

  • Back after his first overseas trip as president, President Trump is in Washington today.

  • He will make a speech at Arlington National Cemetery at 11 AM EDT. Watch live here.

The House of Representatives: OUT

  • Congress is out of Washington for a week’s recess.

The Senate: OUT

  • Congress is out of Washington for a week’s recess.

What to Watch

  • With Congress out, all eyes will be on the president and the Trump/Russia investigation this week.

  • Upon his return to Washington and a Russia investigation that now extensively involves his son-in-law Jared Kushner, the president took to Twitter to question the integrity of the media

  • There has been no statement from the administration about the Friday stabbing of three commuters in Portland, OR defending two young women being verbally attacked by a white supremacist. Two of the three men died on scene; one is still in the hospital with critical injuries.

Be strong, CountaFamily! Democracy is not for the faint of heart.

"Political democracy cannot last unless there lies at the base of it social democracy. What does social democracy mean? It means a way of life that recognizes liberty, equality and fraternity as the principles of life." — B. R. Ambedkar
