Intel Committee Sends Flynn Two More Subpoenas

The Senate Intelligence Committee will issue two new subpoenas aimed at compelling Michael Flynn to turn over documents related to his contacts with Russian officials just one day after Flynn declined to honor an earlier subpoena from the committee and invoked the Fifth Amendment. It will also send a letter to Flynn’s attorney pushing back on the contention that Fifth Amendment rights can prevent Flynn from turning over those documents.
The new subpoenas will be focused on two of Flynn’s businesses, with Ranking Member Mark Warner (D-VA) saying:
"While we disagree with Gen. Flynn’s lawyer’s interpretation of taking the Fifth, it is even more clear that a business does not have a right to take the Fifth if it’s a corporation.”
Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) said that if Flynn continues to not comply, the committee will seek more legal advice on next steps, which could lead to a contempt charge. However, Burr explained to Reuters that the time isn’t yet right for a contempt charge:
"That’s not our preference today. We would like to hear from General Flynn. We would like him to tell his story because he publicly said: ‘I’ve got a story to tell.’ We’re allowing him that opportunity to tell it.”
