by Countable | 5.23.17

Today the President announced his administration's budget proposal for fiscal year 2018. We'll include a detailed recap of what's in it later, but it's important to note what the heads of both parties in the Senate have to say about it.

Here's Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:

Minority Leader Chuck Schumer:

Where do you stand on Trump's budget?

I'm so tired of the government giving to the rich at the expense of the poor. Trump's budget is just another example of how he intends on making the rich richer and the poor poorer. We are in a bad way in this country. If we don't unseat the republican majority we might as well shoot our own selves in the head. Our standard of living will be compromised.

Budget is devoid of compassion for the least of us. The President and his "Christian" staff would benefit from revisiting what Jesus said about the least of us. The budget is not only unchristian but it reflects an evil streak prepared by a dictatorial liar.

Becoming an active protestor by calling, emailing, marching, writing to members of Congress is the only tool we have to voice our concern and dislike of this budget. In 2018 it is even more important to vote Republicans out of office and seats of power. VOTE BLUE 2018 Impeach Trump because the Republicans won't

You are under criminal investigation, king cockroach, because you obviously received your education from a comic book. Your stinking minions in congress have now taken up your "budget". Chief minion McConnell will attempt to convince the people that somehow, as you take money from the poor and give to the rich, it is a good thing. How does it feel to have gone against all your republican values McConnell, just to sit on top of a poop pile? 2018...Bye Bye

What I would like to know is what are Trump supporters and republicans thinking. Number one, what does the common Joe supporters think that these cuts will do to them, help them? How about our reps ,specifically ,republican reps. Do they really want to hurt all of those people? All the time while cutting taxes beyond anything ever seen before for the ultra wealthy. It makes you wonder what is going on in their heads. Are Trumps supporters really that stupid and think this is all just politics? Why do they still back a man that would do all of these things to his own people? Is there hatred of liberals and democrats so severe that they are willing to sacrifice their own well being just to spite other people. Makes you wonder. That's why normal people refer to them as morons or selfish idiots or UnAmerican. They just don't get it. WAKE UP AMERICA.

I am opposed to this budget. It takes from the middle class and the vulnerable poor and elderly, while reducing taxes for the wealthy. Let me put it more succinctly: it takes away so much of what I rely on, and my family relies on, while doing NOTHING to reduce MY taxes, and gives billions to people who, bless their hearts, don't need them. It funds a wall thAt no one wants, and increases a military budget that is already bloated beyond recognition. It penalizes young people with student debt, and removes billions from the educational resources needed to fund our schools. Government is for the good of mankind, and, without it, human life is in jeopardy. This budget does nothing for the working class, but is aimed at making us poorer, sicker, uneducated, and fearful. It's goal is to keep us downtrodden and meek, allowing the wealthy to run this country into the ground. I am asking my representatives to FIGHT to bring this country together, rather than encourage the divisiveness of this Republican Administration. Vote this budget straight back to where it came from. I encourage each of you to call for a bipartisan coalition to develop a budget that works for ALL of us, not just the wealthy.

This budget blueprint is pure garbage. It is a campaign promotion not a serious attempt at a budget. Please disregard it. A shame to waste trees printing it.

I am totally fed up with the useless excrement that has been filling the seats of Congress. Fed up that in their relentless goal of garnering power and riches for themselves have totally betrayed the American people. I pray that America will pass judgement in the voting booth every chance they get.

I just read the President's proposed budget. Aside from paid family leave and no cuts to Medicaid and Social Security, it is a nightmare. The projections seem to be based on highly optimistic fantasies and the cuts to important programs will be devastating. It's filled with lies (US corporations don't pay the highest taxes in the world, for instance) and historical revisionism (Deficits are high because Barack Obama inherited the worst financial calamity since the Great Depression and faced Republican obstructionism throughout his term). The proposal would destroy our natural lands through deregulation, which is important to the west, and harm the most vulnerable Americans through misguided reforms. History shows us that trickle down economics only benefit the upper 1%. Michael Bennett stand strong against this assault on our country, Ken Buck and Cory Gardner, develop a backbone and put country before party. Stop with the partisan talking points and act as a check and balance against this dangerous administration. Thank you.

If you are planning on supporting over a $1 billion wall while cutting access to health care/reproductive health care, you should be ashamed. The health of American people is more important than an unnecessary wall.

This budget doesn't make sense. You don't need to be an accountant to realize this is just random scribbling and speculation without backing to support the results

I hope those that voted for President Trump look carefully at this blueprint and understand what would happen to them if it actually was adopted, A great percentage of is base would be seriously harmed by his plans. Reverse Robin Hood --- take from the poor and give to the rich -- that will make America Great (not)

Give Billions to Saudis and take Billions away from the poor, the sick, children & the elderly in the form of health care and social services. The enemy within is more destructive to the American people than the enemy from outside our country

Evidently, poor people are not supposed to notice when Congress allows the President to steal what little hope they have. Shame on any elected official who supports a budget that so blatantly favors billionaires.

Every American should oppose this budget. It strips funding from the disabled and elderly who rely on Medicaid and social security for necessary services. It takes away funding for cancer research by stripping funding to NIH all the while giving great big generous tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans. It strips funding for Meals on Wheels! This impacts 44 million Americans on SNAP as well! Any person in America could have an elderly parent that needs to be placed in a nursing home and the only money they have gets used up paying for the room and board. Without Medicaid, these same people who worked hard all of their lives will have no place to go, but live with family who may not have the resources to pay for their care. Trump administration thinks those Americans and their families are undeserving just as he thinks some disadvantaged students who benefit from outreach programs to achieve bachelor's degrees are unworthy. Other programs that suffer. are opiate treatment programs. Meanwhile border security and defense funding increase. Americans use your outdoor voice and scream to your senators that this appalling budget will not be tolerated! Senators- I expect you to fight for your lives to oppose this budget!
