Video: Watch the FCC Arguments For and Against Net Neutrality

by Countable | 5.18.17

Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) took an important step in the repeal of net neutrality rules.

At the end of the two-hour open hearing, Chairman Ajit Pai and two commissioners voted 2-1 in favor of Pai's "Restoring Internet Freedom" proposal, which attempts to revert to a similar regulatory framework prior to President Obama.

Watch the arguments from the hearing:

Please keep the net neutrality rules. Calling it "internet freedom" doesn't fool anyone but the most naive voter. This is not what people want- this is what big corporations want.

The rollback of Net Neutrality must be stopped!!! Ajit Pai is moving this for the big money companies like AT & T. The Trump-appointed chair of the FCC just released a plan to repeal the rules that protect net neutrality. These rules changes could permanently alter the future of the internet -- allowing big corporations to determine what we see, hear, and share. Net Neutrality is needed to keep the internet free and open at affordable prices for consumers. If this is allowed to happen they get to choose what what they believe is priority and slow down what they don't, causing consumers to pay more for faster service. Also, I believe, our privacy is at risk. Please do what you can to stop this. Thank you.

On the repeal of internet neutrality rules...do you care at all what your constituents want? What matters to us and our future? This is OVERWHELMINGLY opposed by your constituents. There is not one voter who is in favor of this. It's a gift to big business at the expense of freedom of information. Seriously, unless you plan to retire before 2018, and leave us holding this particular stinking bag....think long and hard about this one.

Net neutrality is really important and should be protected otherwise it is a slippery slope to something like occurs in China where the internet is censored. That is a violation of our freedoms.

Without question net neutrality must be maintained. We need to protect our freedom. So much has already been lost.

Who other than large corporations actually thinks that letting ISPs throttle competitors' sites is a good idea?

Please fight for Net Neutrality! The internet needs to be for the people, a true level playing field. "Freedom", in this case, is allowing for large and wealthy corporations the right to monopolize the net. We don't need that.

Please safeguard the internet for the public. Net-neutrality provides essential security and use. The efforts to repeal it only helps big business (which appears to be the major GOP goal!) The American public deserves a break from big business interests!!!

You're beginning to take everything away from us the Internet is the only way we have to communicate to each other how we really feel and what we think of what is happening in this country yes it can be used for good or bad but I prefer to have that option not you decide for me✌️

Net neutrality ensures free and equal access to information and needs to be protected. Big broadband companies shouldn't be allowed to abuse their position as gatekeepers and prioritize certain content. This is being done in the interest of big corporations, not the people. Save the open internet!

While the internet is a platform for corporate competition, it is also a research and communication platform. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have the job of providing these services through internet access, not regulation. A person should be able to access whatever they want without interference from ISPs and the basis of ability to pay should never enter the discussion.

Keep net neutrality in place! The internet is the last venue for truly free speech, and the only reason to change this is to go against the public and vote instead for corporate greed. I do not live in an authoritarian government, nor do I want the appearance of one by locking down the internet in corporate interests. Keep the internet free from greedy hands, and maintain net neutrality!
