Join us and tell your reps how you feel!
What’s the story?
- Donald Trump will be meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday, July 16.
- Trump told reporters on Thursday that he plans to raise election meddling during the one-on-one with Putin. However, the president added that Putin “may deny it” and “All I can do is say, 'Did you?' and 'Don't do it again.’”
- Late last month, Trump tweeted that “Russia continues to say they had nothing to do with Meddling in our Election!”
- As for other topics the two may discuss at their upcoming meeting:
“I think we go into that meeting not looking for so much. We want to find out about Syria. We will of course ask your favorite question about meddling. I will be asking that question again,” Trump said at a news conference at the end of a NATO summit in Brussels.
- Trump called the Russian leader “a competitor” but added Putin is “not my enemy.”
“Is he a friend? No, I don't know him well enough. But the couple of times that I've gotten to meet him, we got along well...I hope we get along well.”
Other potential topics of discussion
- A pledge of mutual non-interference in each other’s political systems.
- Russia’s involvement in the Syrian civil war.
- Russia being allowed back into the Group of Seven (G-7).
- Russia's annexation of Crimea.
- Moscow’s alleged use of a Soviet-era nerve agent on British soil.
- The “impenetrable Cyber Security unit” he and Putin were planning one year ago.
